I want the new Tundra, but worried I will miss having the V8 sound. Does anyone regret giving up their V8 for the 2022?

V8 sound? I'm sure you can have them update the software to pipe in V8 sound instead of the V6. lol

I came from a Ford 5.0 to the new Tundra. I miss the V8 power. Not so much the sound. The V8 definitely sounds better, but I like how quiet the new Tundra is and the smooth little V6 is a part of that. The Tundra definitely has more power and the 10 speed in the Tundra excellent. I think the small but of turbo lag isnwhat is dislike about the Tundras engine. Everything else is better than the V8.

I miss the way my '09 sounded. That's about it.

I do think they could've put twin turbos on the 4.7 V8, paired it to the 10 speed, and freed up the exhaust a bit and gotten similar power and mileage as the V6 though.

Right! I think it's funny how everyone says they miss the V8 power but yet the numbers don't lie...

Everyone in this thread saying "V8 iS kInG" blah blah blah obviously haven't driven one or are delusional. The TTV6 makes more horsepower and torque and can deliver that power much more efficiently through the 10 speed. Not to mention much much better MPG. All of the V8 tundra die hards that have driven my truck were blown away with the engine.

My point exactly. The numbers don't lie. Very few peoole are actually supercharging their V8 so it's a moot point. The hybrid numbers aren't far off the SC numbers either.

Most people rather buy a new truck and perpetuate the cylce, most people cant or dont want to deal having their vehicle at the shop for a week, nothing wrong with that.

It's all about how you want to spend your money. Truth is, unless you got your new Tundra ~20-25% off MSRP price, you'll likely never see the fuel savings within a 7-10 yr period, you may be more likely to change vehicles again. Changing cars is not a fuel saving strategy unless you get 20 more MPG compared to your current vehicle. The math's been done before and thats not accounting any increase in gas prices.

When you are talking about factory engine options the numbers don't lie like stating above by Outbound. Anyone can go forced induction or tune an engine to make power but that's not the argument here. Hell Mercedes makes a 400+ horsepower 4 cylinder.

The SC V8 was factory/dealer option at some point, those who got it while it was available will understand what I was getting at.

I'll take a NA V8 any day right now over a V6 with turbos. Longevity is King here. And I dare say the V6TT gets "much, much better mpgs". So I'll keep sipping the kool-aid...

Not to mention, either powertrain will handle more weight than the suspensions, so the V6 isn't limiting the truck at all.

And if you're towing heavy stuff a lot, you're probably needing a 3/4 or 1 ton anyways.

I'm curious how far the TTV6 hp and torque can be pushed with ecu tuning on 91 octane. VF tuner just cracked the ecu on these trucks and tuning development is underway. For the meantime

Piped in sound or not, it feels genuinely like a v8 and sounds pretty good from the inside of the truck, plus lots more torque than the old v8.

I suggest test driving a limited or above trim, and make your own judgement.

I will take it over the v8. Gas just hit $2.00/litre (that’s almost $6/gallon ($5.97 to be exact) for my US friends). I’m not slamming crushed gravel into my bed on the regular so a ½ tonne with a V6 fits nice for my needs (kids/boat/hunting gear/lumber/landacape equipment hauler).

Lets talk in 6 years again unless you are one of those people that can afford switching trucks every 2 years. I certainly don't think that a V6 will do the work of a V8. Well unless one wants to drive a Sienna with a truck bed that is. LOL

Funny, same argument could be made for the 3.5 Taco engine vs.the 4.0. But as we all know, the transmission tuning on the 3.5 was horrible (at least at first, have they fixed that yet on the autos?) and made it a less desirable driving experience. Not saying this is or isn't the case with the new Tundra, just pointing out that numbers, while great for measuring peckers, don't always tell the whole story as to what makes a good driving experience.
