So, just changed the front and rear differential fluids. For those that do this themselves do you find that you put back in less that what the book says? My rear diff should take 3.8 qts. I bet I got 3.3 back in before fluid ran out the top. Anyone else have something similar? I’m thinking about pulling the fill plug again and trying to put more in it.

I bet it’s 3.8 dry, as in new or rebuilt. Even draining your not going to get 3.8 out. My opinion.

Yeah when I did mine it was less. I figure it was because some of it is inevitably hanging up. I just filled till it came out the fill port and called it good

You recall how much less for comparison? I was considering pulling the fill plug and pump some in after driving around a bit.

    It's good
If you want to put a bit more in, park on a hill with the fill hole up hill side. Not sure it's necessary, but you will get to 3.8

I think a part of it my truck wasn’t perfectly level. It was real close though. Like a 2x4 leveled it. So I can’t believe that made a huge difference.

Level ground. Fill until it runs out of the fill hole. Reinstall plug. Wipe down and clean off. Go and have fun for 50k to 100K miles (what ever your flavor is). This procedure is not a numbers game.

Alright. Finished a few hours ago. Worst part was dropping and reinstalling the cat shield! Good until 60k.

Took so long because I did have to go to an appointment right in the middle.
