2018 trd off road limited tundra crewmax with 71000 miles for 41900 out the door after taxes tag and title in Maryland. Seems to be in good condition and no cosmetic issues except normal wear and tear but nothing noticeable. 2 owners and carfax shows regular oil changes. Being offered 27k for my sr5 2016 double cab tacoma.

my truck has 81k miles on it. After trade it’s 24900. My truck was paid off but I took 10k out on it with interest so low so I owe 10k still.

Maryland prices are ridiculous. I wound up buying mine in upstate NY, paid MSRP for a 2021 Limited DC w/off road package. I know Koons in Westminster has a 2021 DC Limited Nightshade for $52,300, but that's the only other one I've seen locally for a decent price. I was interested in it, but by the time they got it in, I had already bought mine. There's a dealer in Harford Co asking $55,000 for an SR5 DC w/Off Road has 3,200 miles on it. That's WAY more than I paid for my Limited. It's ridiculous. Our market is unfortunately out of sight right now. Used prices are insane.

Unfortunate if you need a truck right now that is about average.
    I am in NoVa.
I would also check dealer records for service records and recalls.

Not a great comparison but I got my 1 owner 2014 4x4 non trd 1794 edition with 52k miles in Feb 2019 for 33k from carmaxripoff in Dulles.
It came with rear TRD swaybar, sprayed on bed liner, tyger softcover, and tinted windows with vent visors, front clear bra, everything else stock.

2018 is certainly newer with better tech and hopefully the larger gas tank (my 26 gallon sucks ass except when I see the bill at the pump, compared to 38 gallon tank owners $100 fillups lol)

I'm not too 'up' on used car prices, but it doesn't seem like a bad deal with what I've seen some used car / trucks go for.

I would find a 21 with much less mileage and less chance of it having been in a flood or otherwise abused. Just don't like not knowing the history of a vehicle. What if 60k of those miles were hard towing?:monocle:

    Valid points you have.

However, flooded vehicles have to be disclosed and salvage titled.
Yes this slips by sometimes but not often.
Also unlikely someone did hard towing for 60k miles, especially if the rest of the truck looks good and cared for.
Dealer service history from then VIN highly recommended also for insight on maintenance.
Crawling under it to look for any new parts, bolts, paint, etc from a not reported accident, any damage or leaks etc.

Also that 21 model is going to cost north of $50k instead of $41k before his trade in.
    Gotta watch that budget

    70k miles is nothing.
I paid $4k for my 98 4runner with 201k miles and daily drove it for work and offroading on the beach for vacations 350 miles away dozens of times.
300k miles now and still driving fine, but retired atm while I date my Tundra :101010:

    YMMV :hattip:

Depends on your definition of "hard towing." I'm thinking going all in with a long way to go and a short time to get there pulling a bobcat or similar. OP could check the condition of paint on safety chain loops, condition of paint on tow haul button, rubber wear on brake pedal, upholstery wear, etc. to help determine how the truck may have been used.

In this market that isn't a bad price. Especially in the NE.

Bit confused here. So how is the 10k you owe on your current truck being factored in?

I am guessing your talking about jones. Yes their used prices are insane since their hurting so bad from the shortage.

So I look at it as my truck is valued at 27k. I owe 10k on my truck because I took a loan out against it. So really if I sold it I only get 17k. The total debt factor if I’m financing 25k from buying the new truck 10k of that I don’t worry about because the business I used that for pays that portion of the loan. So I really only think of it as borrowing 15k if that makes sense. But ultimately I really am borrowing 25k so I’m just making this confusing probably ha.

I haven’t paid for the vehicle yet so I’m still debating if this is a good deal. Cars.com says it’s a great deal but my gut tells me I should just pay more to get less miles. The carfax shows it had one owner until 68k then was auctioned off in November 2021 then a few weeks later (20miles increased too) it was auctioned again. For some reason that’s drawing a red flag in my mind. It’s also been sitting at the dealership for quite some time so if it was a good deal it probably would have been gone by now i feel like. The pics and video the guy sent it does look nice tho.

That price ($42k) is what some people paid for a limited CM new with zero miles. Yes I know used prices are high, but you shouldn't pay that much for 70+k miles for a stock truck. Keep looking for deals like @Seafury got. They are out there for sure. At minimum it should be under $40k but I don't like the 70k miles for over $40k, it's a stretch. If it were a Platinum, Pro, or 1794 I'd say it's closer to fair, but not a deal, Especially with multiple owners.

Mine was not a great deal imo.
    It was ok at best.
    It was also pre kungflu.

I just wanted a specific truck and this was the first acceptable one within 300 miles of me after 6 months of searching.

I made the mistake of waiting until now to buy. Clearly I did not get a good deal however I got the truck I wanted. On the plus side home will be paid for next week and our other Toyotas are paid for...which made it easier to stomach the not so great deal.

The market is out of whack right now, and it has been for over a year. My dealer keeps asking me to sell them my 2018 for 6k more than I paid OTD.

41900 OTD is a great price!! Especially if they are offering you 17k for your trade and burying the 10k you owe on it.

For the price of that 2018, I would go with a 2021 with much less mileage.

In Nov 2020 I bought a 10k mile 2019 CM Sr5 4x4 Sport (no chrome) for 43k OTD. So no I do not believe that it is a good deal.

That said, I do understand the market has changed.

Yes, the market has changed and differs by state and location. And the 2018 he is looking at is a Limited. You bought an SRS Sport (which I bought new in 2018 for 41250 OTD, lol)..
