What are you streaming/watching?

Lol, I can understand that. Raising the color gamut has got to be one of the best things to happen to movies since the introduction of IMAX. I do lean more towards Dolby than DTS:X but I won't say no to either. I've only got a basic Samsung setup for Atmos but it works in the movie room I have it in.

As far as reference discs, I notice I tend to stick with either Villeneuve or Nolan. If you haven't seen it in 4K, watch Sicario.

I love 3D when it's done well. I know it can be a polarizing movie form but when it's done right, it really adds to the immersion. One of my favorite reference discs for that is Life of Pi.

 

I lean toward DTS:X (or DTS in general), mainly because what I hear in my house reminds me of what I hear in the theater. But yeah, I'm the same and will take either. But I do prefer the latest Dolby Surround for non object-based encodings (e.g., vanilla TrueHD or DTS-HD MA). And for gaming, DTS Neural:X all the way, unless the game itself supports Atmos like Resident Evil Remake, which I have to say was insane in Atmos with the lights off.

I haven't seen Sicario in 4k, but it's on my to-get list. I hear nothing but good things. While I do prefer a full amp/separates setup (which I have in the living room and the mancave), I did listen to the Samsung Atmos soundbar setup and it was very well done. I'm considering getting it for my loft, which I'm in process of making an additional setup.

As a popcorn flick, I really enjoy this one, but I also recognize it's iffy at best. I think I just like the Wachowski's movies, good or bad (Speed Racer excepted).

Haven't been online much after getting a new mountain bike a few weeks ago and been riding like crazy. So anyway, getting caught up on what I remember from the last few weeks.

Ah, the Tobey days.

 

I still prefer these films over the last 2 iterations. For the longest time I felt that part 2 in particular was a standard for how to make a superhero movie. Well, that and Nolan's Batman.

 

I watched Against The Ice last night. Excellent movie.

I've kind of fallen off with keeping up with them. How many is there now? 8-9? (not including Hobbs and Shaw)

 

I just picked up 9, which released on video sometime late last year, so I'm watching them again before I start 9. Part 10 is supposed to be the last one, which should be going to production soon. I read that Diesel tried to get Dwayne Johnson to return after the tiff that they had, but Johnson declined. Kinda sucks as I felt Johnson really amped up the films when he arrived in Fast Five.

I actually used to hate these movies. I was always more of a muscle-car guy and didn't care for the import thing, but it was interesting to re-watch the first film after 10+ years and find that it actually had dialogue compared to the run-of-the mill popcorn films coming out. I ended up enjoying it and love these movies now, despite the ridiculousness of the later films. But hey, it's the kind'a thing I can put on during the work day with little distraction.

On another note, my cousin was also in part 2. He was big on the import car scene in Florida back then, and his "team" got picked up to be in the movie. He's in the opening scene after the race standing next to Tej (Ludacris) cheering on the racers. And his car was also in one of the scenes.

 

That sucks to hear about the Rock. I thought the same and even made another franchise out the H's and Shaw. Actually just looked it up and saw they were making a second movie to that.

I think the H&S spin-off actually added fuel to the Diesel/Johnson fire. Apparently some of the other cast like Tyrese Gibson gave Johnson some flack about it, too. Whatever. I love Gibson though, he adds some good comic relief. He's the reason why I enjoy Part 2 so much. "SIT ON IT, FONZIE!" lol

I wasn't as crazy about the spin-off, but still fun so I'm on board for a sequel.
