Fair question. It breaks the 12 VDC battery power (positive lead) close to the battery. Just added safety so power isn't hot at the control box (for me, on the other side of the engine bay) until the solenoid switch turns it on. I temp. mounted the switch near the battery but I think many mount the switch in the cab on the dash or other places. It can also be used to supply power to other aux., devices like fog lights, etc. Best.

I'm not sure I would have committed and bought everything retail as the total costs are way up there. I was lucky enough to get most everything I needed from a good member on this site at a much lower price. However, I think you get what you pay for and no doubt this is a sweet set-up...if I do say so myself! :D

Oh so it’s like a solenoid breaker? What’s the concern about having constant power to the winch?

More like a contactor I suppose than a breaker since the solenoid doesn't trip-out based on current load. It's not a huge concern, but I needed a new power connection anyhow and decided to build-in a little safety. I like it better so I don't have to disconnect the winch power directly from the battery if I ever need to do any work. Also, I don't like over 8 feet of hot battery power cable running across my engine bay when I don't need it. Even in a minor accident, since my hot wire travels in front of the radiator, there's a chance for the 12 VDC wire to be cut/short as well. It also helps assure I kill the control box power so I don't accidentally drain the battery. Lastly, if something weird ever happens with my alternator/battery, the winch control box will be isolated from that event.

Synthetic oil and filter change, and VA state inspection. Thought I may need front brake pads but they passed inspection. Shop did say I should do a bunch of flushes to the tune of $700+, I passed. They wanted to flush PS fluid, coolant, replace serpentine belt, and more. Typical try at a sell, their recommendations were basically all labor changes. Not needed, just did diffs, xfer case fluids 5k miles ago. Belt has 55k miles on it and I see no issues or cracks with it.

Hoping to get RAS installed this weekend when I am off!

Very happy with how it turned out. The fit and finish looks OEM. Great place for tow and ratchet straps.

3D printed a console badge replacement today. I could customize it to say whatever but thought I'd keep it simple. I did the vent chrome rings yesterday.

I did that to my Tacoma and the stealership took them during one of my service trips. I didn't notice until it was too late. Lost the 2mpg it added to the TACO.

I let my fiancee take Tundra for the first time (her first time driving it) to go to work. :(

I was rotating her tires on her car last night (ford focus) and found a nail so I took it in for a fix. I stood at the window watched her leave.... was going to happen eventually..
