Looking for a little insite. Going to install my first drop bracket lift pretty soon on my 2017 crew max 4x4. I cant decide if i want to install it at home by myself or pay to have it installed. I have done several leveling kits and 3inch lifts at home before on other yotas but never a 6inch. An if i paid someone to do it since there isnt anyone in my area that does that kinda work i would have to drive about 100 miles one way just to have it installed. Of course i dont have a car lift at home. Just regular tools and jacks. Should i try this at home? How high do i need to get it off the ground to start? Btw i do know a guy who can align it once i get it done near the house. How many of you done this at home? I feel confident i can do the job but getting it off the ground far enough to do it is really my only concern.

I was leaning toward to zone 5inch lift but i havent ordered it yet. Just want to do the basic lift first then later i might install coilovers. My truck is a 2017 sr5 crew max 5.7. Want to run 34s or 35s all terrains. Mud tires drive me nuts. I like a smooth ride. Would love to keep my stock wheels and just have them powdercoated black (sr5 18inch wheels) but more then likely will be ordering 18x9 xd bucks and tires as well.

Also i will add that i dont offroad much anymore. Only offroading i do is hunting and fishing. Which is the reason for wanting a 6inch lift this time. More for looks then go i guess is what im saying. But still do what i need.

Im not dead set on the zone if there is a better lift out there thst is easier to install at home. As home install is my main priority at this point.

I say, do it. I've read the install pdf and it doesn't seem too hard as long as you've got the tools. If you've got a good jack and jack stands I think the lift is unnecessary, helpful, but unnecessary.

Do you have a welder? Also i hightly doubt you will be able to use your stock wheels. Most higher lifts need a min of 5in of backspacing

x2 on the welder, not super positive but it looks like with the zone 5'' i think you'll have to cut crossmember, from what i found the only thing bigger than 4'' that doesn't require a crossmember cut is the rough country lift, but the downside is the cv angles.

personally, unless you do a lot of offroading, i'd go with the rough country and do it myself.

That is another personal concern i have and one reason why i dont want another 3inch lift is cv angles. I dont want to fight that anymore. Reckon the rough country 4.5 has better angles then the 6? I dont wanna have to worry about cvs when this is said and done this time through.

Well i have had several 3inch lifts. Last lift i had was on my 2015 tacoma (ome lift with toytech top plate spacer) fins rubbed hard together and even though i didnt have to replace the boots it was coming before i traded it. Then before that i had a 2013 fj with a stage 3 icon lift boot fins wore holes in shaft on both sides 2 times. Granted i could have brought my coilovers down a bit an kept them from rubbing but i wanted the full 3 inches to run 35s etc. Etc.

I was hoping to keep the cv angles a little better this go around since i actually plan on keeping my tundra long term along with my drive shaft angles. Hence is why im wanting a 6inch lift this time and of course for the looks again.

i noticed you were between 6'' and 5'' zone lift, it seems the 6'' procomp and the bds are pretty popular as well

    +1 For a ProComp stage 2!

Some not common tools you're going to need is a welder, cutting torch, large compressor and an impact wrench. The last 2 aren't a must but will make install easier. Anything over 3 in that is going on 4x4 is gong to need the crossmember cut. If you go with a ProComp lift they have a very good warranty program

NO I did not install. If you get a procomp lift installed by one of their certified installers you get lift shield warranty which covers all drivetrain items. I have pics of my setup on my build page
