Just a word of warning--the 14 inch screen scratches VERY easily. I've had my truck for three months, and have noticed very small scratches in the sunlight. I baby this truck and have no idea where those came from. I have been hesitant to clean the screen since I was worried about scratching it more. It had a lot of fingerprints on it this weekend and I very gently wiped it down. There are now circular scratch marks in the screen. They are only visible from certain angles but I'm shocked. I used very little pressure and was very careful. Ugh.

I bought a screen protector from Amazon for my 8" screen but its for the fire so it looks a lil tacky and out of place. I'm waiting on something better to come along I can find to replace it

Not trying to ask a dumb question, but are you sure its the screen and not a protective film scratched? I saw another thread on here where it looked like the screen was damaged until the OP built up the nerve to see if it was a protective film and it peeled right off.

Seconded this. My girlfriend noticed a scratch on my screen this weekend and turns out the film was still on, it just wasn't very noticeable. She pulled it off and it looks great now.

Yeah not a dumb question. I saw someone still had their film on the screen. I can't see plastic piece over the screen. I have looked really closely at the edges.

FYI, when trying to clean off the inevitable dust and fingerprints, Meguiar's makes a great, gentle cleaner that, when sprayed on a soft microfiber cloth will not scratch your screen (or cluster bezel). The key is to never wipe a dry screen/bezel. I'm sure there are other cleaner options, but I've done well with this one.

It's hard to see, mine was cut exactly to the screen. If the screen feels slightly sticky it's still on.

I had to check with my finger nail to peel up mine. Because I couldn’t see it.

Noticed scratches too, then realized the factory plastic was still in place, but it was hard to tell.

So, those who have removed the factory plastic film, what's the consensus? Is a screen protector required? I've never even considered using one in my vehicle, but also never had a screen like this one.

hmm. Mine feels a little sticky. I’m so scared to peel something off. I can’t get an edge to come up. There are very small bubbles along the bottom of the screen. Hmmm

Well after a lot of time looking to see if the film was still on and being so mad about the scratches, something happened. Today while stopped at a stop light, I tried to peel the corner (done this many times) and the film was there. So the film was always there. I’ve literally used flashlights try to find it. It is there and I am thankful the screen doesn’t scratch like I thought it did.

Does this film change the feel or responsiveness of the screen? Two of the things I really like with this screen, that makes it stand above my previous vehicles, is the glass screen and responsive inputs.

What a relief! I'm picking my truck up next week and will be throwing a screen protector on it asap. I've got this one on order:

    https://www.etsy.com/listing/1170014341/2022-toyota-tundra-matte-finish-14?transaction_id=2909839837

I'm sure there will be a lot more options down the road but for right now this seemed like my best bet for a good fit.

I don’t think a screen protector is necessary unless you tend to use your nails to scratch the screen. Also, it’s not like a phone that one handles and drags against other surfaces for it to scratch.

Number one cause of scratched lenses on glasses is being wiped with a dry cloth. I would bet the same applies here. Even if it's a silky soft cloth, don't wipe it without something to wet the screen first.

I’m planning to keep my truck for a long time and scratches would drive me nuts. While it may not be necessary, I like the piece of mind a cheap screen protector would add.

FWIW, I ripped off my Spigen protector after a few days of being frustrated by the new-found reflective glare.

This was my thought as well. I am curious as to whether there are any cases of a screen scratching from normal use.

Normal use, the sun glare is reduced and absolutely zero fingerprints with my screen protector, that was my major concern the fingerprints. If it prevents scratches that’s a bonus

The scratches are usually from impromptu cleanings. Driving along and the light hitting it right to show a layer of dust, and wiping it away with a hand or dry cloth, for example. Just operating the screen is unlikely to ever cause scratches.

I am always baffled seeing phones with ugly screen protectors. I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max, 17 months old, with a regular case and daily use—no visible screen scratches. This phone gets at least 2-3 times a day screen cleaning with a dry cloth.

Comparing a screen to glasses is not fair at all. Comparing phone screens is more reasonable. Given how my phone has held up for 17 months, going in and out of my pocket numerous times and being cleaned multiple times, I expect this screen to last upwards of 40 years with no issues.

Screen protector, on the other hand, is visible and ugly. At least most of them are.

The application/use of the material isn't really relevant. The basic concept applies whether it's your phone, HU, or the paint on your car.

Material A (glasses lens, phone screen, HU screen, painted surfaces, etc.) is softer than Material B (debris on Material A whether rocks, sand, dirt, dust, etc.) and dragging Material B across Material A runs the risk of scratching the softer surface. Using a liquid as a barrier that reduces friction/floats Material B off the surface will decrease the odds of scratching Material A. Combining this with a soft cloth that can absorb the liquid and capture Material B is your best course to avoid damage.
