I'm only against chicken and waffles because waffles are a waste of good pancake batter. Even stating that, I would give it a try before ruling. I've been surprised more than once that a dish made with ingredients I don't like tasting good.

 

If you're putting pancake batter in your waffle iron, you're doing it wrong.

Just like you have to go to Italy to learn about pizza, you have to go to Belgium to learn about waffles (and fries).

Waffles 100%. They give you pockets to hold syrup and other good ingredients. Syrup just runs right off the top of pancakes. If I am going to eat something surgary, I want to make sure I get the full effect.

I was at my bro-in-laws waiting for his online doctor appointment. Dude was 1 hour and 8 minutes late. He's a great cancer doctor though and I had you all to keep my mind occupied (bro-in-law was eating lunch).

Got home and the neighbors, who go to Mardi Gras every year, sent us our yearly King Cake. Unfortunately, this one didn't quite make it through the shipping process. I think they went with a new bakery because I've never seen one leaking bodily fluids. After a through glove and/or condom check, I'll dig in.



Still pretty awesome that they send them to us.

As promised, here's the French Toast recipe. I use Pepperidge Farm Hearty White Bread and make sure you spray the hell out of the baking pan with Vegetable oil spray. Also, like I said, I've had really good results freezing the leftovers and warming them in a toaster.

EVERYDAY FRENCH TOAST (America's Test Kitchen)

3 large eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
2 teaspoons packed brown sugar
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon table salt
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1 cup milk
8 slices hearty white sandwich bread

1. Adjust 1 oven rack to lowest position and second rack 5 to 6 inches from broiler element. Heat oven to 425 degrees. Generously spray bottom and sides of 18 by 13-inch rimmed baking sheet with vegetable oil spray. Whisk eggs, vanilla, sugar, cinnamon, and salt in large bowl until sugar is dissolved and no streaks of egg remain. Whisking constantly, drizzle in melted butter. Whisk in milk.

2. Pour egg mixture into prepared sheet. Arrange bread in single layer in egg mixture, leaving small gaps between slices. Working quickly, use your fingers to flip slices in same order you placed them in sheet. Let sit until slices absorb remaining custard, about 1 minute. Bake on lower rack until bottoms of slices are golden brown, 10 to 15 minutes. Transfer sheet to upper rack and heat broiler. (Leave sheet in oven while broiler heats.) Broil until tops of slices are golden brown, watching carefully and rotating sheet if necessary to prevent burning, 1 to 4 minutes.

3. Using thin metal spatula, carefully flip each slice. Serve.

Actually, my favorite way to have pancakes is a short stack of 3 with an easy over egg (splattered with Tabasco) between the top two and real maple syrup on the deal with a side of sausage.

Regulating syrup volume is one of those things I hate because it makes me feel old. I often stop myself from telling my 4 year old to not drown his pancakes/french toast/waffles(yea, I make all 3 sometimes bc I'm crazy) just to not be "that" dad. I'm still cool dammit!

 

Who they order through? Only time i've had one look like that after was....well....after i was done with it.
