Debadge

Has anyone debadged their Tundra? Are the badges held on by glue or rivets?

I want to replace them with the blacked out trd pro badges. Do they come with new adhesive on them?

 

It's like a 3M adhesive material. After you debadge, which some heat and fishing wire will do well with, just rub away the bit of excess glue residue and away you go.

 

Plastidip em...did mine a year ago...3 coats still on..no peeling

 

Dip is a great inexpensive option as well. Both my Tacoma and previous Tundra had dipped badges and held up without any issue. I went with 7 coats however and light applications to reduce chance of runs/drips.

 

I just pulled all of mine off except for the 5.7 badge. It looks bad ass without anything on the back...

It's just glued on. I went the old dental floss and heat gun trick.

did you guys leave the badges on the plastidip them? It is much cheaper and I had no idea it lasts so long.

I used blue painter's tape bout 1" from all badges clean off badges with rubbing alcohol then news papers with blue tape surrounding good area of body of truck n followed directions from pastidip can did outside truck too high cause of lift wouldn't fit in garage so waited for sunny clear day i sprayed 8 to 10" away semi light to med coats wait half hr to dry then another wait 30 min then another at end of day peel off used wooden skewers to peel away tight spots..ther some youtube vids to show how to do..been bout a yr since ive done hasn't peeled yet

when you buy the SR/Tundra grade they debadge it from the factory

 

what type of glue did you use to put them back on? I'm thinking about doing this to my sunset bronze tundra. How many coats of plastidip and is that just bought at Home Depot and such?

 

Any auto store or yeah home depot lowes has use automotive 3M tape

Not sure, considering taking the sr5 ones off and leaving the tundra and 5.7 badge and blacking those off. Curious how they would be reapplied, like what adhesive.

 

Oh okay, nice. No issues with it leaking through the blue tape? Just worried about hitting the side of truck or leaking through.

No leak through put good pressure on blue tape allow to dry tween coats

Would be first thing I'd do if I bought an SR5.

 

Yeah I was thinking about it last night. Going to take the SR5 badges off and back out the other ones.

 

Hey Rob_08, check this out. You don't need to pull the badges off. I did 7 thin coats and the over spray I did have came off with a terry cloth towel. Clean the chrome with alcohol first. I've had on my truck for 2 years now and still looks great!

 

Awesome, came out great. Just used the plastidip? Did you wait to clean it off with the terry or do it between every coat?
