Flat… Leafs?

I may have come across a few threads about flat leaf springs, but seriously, I’m pretty sure they’re not supposed to be looking like this.

Do you tow you carry a lot of weight consistently? I am not looking for justification just wondering how you use your truck…

 

That’s probably the heaviest I’ve loaded it…

I pretty much mall crawl the truck with the occasional trail runs.

About 28.5k, I've seen @Tundra234 talk about his being flat. I didn't think it would be this bad for me.

Although, I have noticed that the ride feels a bit more... touchy lately.

 

I have a 21 and am under 15k miles so far. Ive seen this issue too often for my liking and think I am going to get the roadmaster and bump stops to help the springs out.

 

Yep....my leaves actually had a gap between them.

 

My 2007 has over 200k and they flattened out and look like a “W” like yours. I just picked up some 2021 leaf springs with 5,600 miles on them for $150. I will be adding a toytec/deaver mini leaf pack to them that I bought a while back and never installed. I have 500-600 lbs in the bed at all times. If I can get another 200k/15 years out of that setup once installed, I’ll be happy.

 

If under 30k you are in warranty, get Toyota to replace them.

 

I now have an arch back in my springs. lmao

How bad were yours without those?

 

Is there such thing as a specification for leaf springs? My '17 CM just ticked over 60k miles and mine are practically straight, heaviest thing I've hauled is 2 dirt bikes, wondering if the Toyota Platinum certified warranty would cover something like this?

 

You'd have to read the fine print of your warranty documents to see exactly what is covered.

 

How are those RAS? Been looking at these for awhile.

 

I'm liking them so far. Bed bounce (what little I had) is gone too.

The made in Mexico stock springs are junk! No regrets on my total rear end suspension rebuild but it cost me a bundle which is sad for a brand new truck. I can say Dobinson's makes a great product. RAS is a great supplement too!

 

I second that. RAS was the best investment. I got it to reduce squatting when towing but was positively surprised by the increased ride comfort empty.
I noticed that the stock leaf springs on my 2018 are crappier than on my old 2012. Granted, the 2012 was a TRD package but the leafs were at 200K as good as when I got it with 20 K and that with daily towing for 6 years.

 

That's normal. It rides better that way at the expense of more axle wrap and payload capacity. Chevy uses a very similar leaf spring and they look exactly the same.
