I have a 2018 highlander that has been perfect since buying new more than 3 yrs ago. Maybe it's just an issue with the new 2020 model.

The corolla hybrid I had did this dumb shit TWICE. I got rid of it. Great little commuter car.. but I noped out of that crap. Rav4 prime as been AWESOME in all aspects.

2020 tundra has been flawless too, but with my future priorities, I may go back to a tacoma when I move in a couple of years due to needing 4x4. Not sure I trust the tundra, so if toyota wants me to buy one in 2 years or so, they better get it fixed.

The 4Runner being made in Japan - Just an fyi - I saw Toyota announced today they are idling their Japan plants, due to cyber attack at supplier.

Now if you had a Ford, Chevy or Ram I'd believe you would be happy with 3 good hours!

Makes sense. So if it is eventually confirmed mechanical binding is the only issue, it doesn't sound like a simple software update be the ideal fix. Unlikely that it will allow the turbo to meet its full design life.

Hope that car transport ship doesn't burn up like the one carrying the BMWs, Porsches and Bentleys last week! ;-)

Yeah, I'm not sure exactly what the deal is. Never had that issue with my Tundra, no one I know has had the issue with the 4Runner....and those happen to be the two vehicles that are 'old.'

I mean, if old means VASTLY minimized issues, then I'm glad to buy an 'old' vehicle. *shrug*

Next bullet to dodge: pissed off locomotive engineers, and freight conductors.

We’re going on 3 years without a contract because the rail carriers refuse to negotiate in good faith. Next step is mediation. Plus the RR’s are implementing draconian attendance policies. For example if I take 2 days off a month, I will be in trouble and fired by the end of the year.

So I and my colleagues don’t give one single fuck if a single carload of anything makes it from A to B undamaged or on time. I’ll run a train like shit now because I don’t give a fuck about a company that doesn’t give a fuck about me. My conductors are happily skull fucking the carrier nit-picking safety inspections on cars. Ever seen a loaded auto rack full of new cars set out in the literal middle of nowhere in a siding in Wyoming? I have. There will be more of this. I’m inspecting locomotives with a fine tooth comb to bad order them. At the same time I’m making no effort to have issues remedied when ordered to take equipment that is clearly defective or about to be defective.

Yesterday I had a train with a defective lead unit. Told to take it anyway. OK fuck it, I’m running this motherfucker like I stole it. Delivered it to the next crew with a burned up traction motor and once I stopped that axle was locked up solid sliding the wheels. I tied up my trip with a smile on my face, enjoy the $50K repair bill assholes, I tried to warn you.

Took the company a solid 9 hours to get it moving again. The outbound crew thought it was hilarious and played dumb, offering no suggestions on alleviation of the service interruption. They probably made a ton of overtime, good for them.

I dont understand, if your job is so shitty why stay? Employers are almost begging for employee's. I do understand your situation and the shit large companys pull (I do warranty service for large home builders). What I dont understand is trying to make a bad situation worse and thinking its funny. Go higher up the chain or simply stand your ground. Just because morale is low and the boss is a dick isnt a reason to not be a man about it. Feel free to pm me if you want a conversation about my response. But now lets get back too chatting about the very small percentage of Tundras with a turbo issue.

No, trading it in did the trick...(yes I did the KDMax tune....better but no joy)
Toyota knew that short stroke, high revving Camry engine would be a bad choice in their popular Taco.
But did it anyway, in the name of streamlining production and saving money.
    Now, I own a ‘22 Tundra...one more chance Toyota.
So far, I’m good. But am not impressed with what I’ve seen out there, Toyota’s sourcing issues, and my fuel mileage.
(16 ish no I don’t drive it like a hooligan)

Im thinking most people should've stayed away from the first model year. It notoriously has the most issues.

Depending on how things shake out in arbitration on a few issues, and new contract mediation I might be doing just that. Retirement benefits are superb though and I’m also a over 1/2 way through my career. Tough walk away from.

You’re free to express your opinion. If my position is not to your liking I’m honestly ambivalent. The only thing my employer cares about is money, so hurting their bottom line is the only way to communicate in a way they take seriously. They’ve destroyed every last bit of employee good will the past couple of years.

Traditionally this hasn’t been the case with Toyota. Years and decades past, you could count on Toyota to do their R&D thoroughly before releasing it to the consumer. They didn’t believe in using the consumer as the test bed....as the big 3 have a rep for.

Things are clearly not the same at Toyota.
Never thought I’d see the day....

Yep, ok, got it. Thx for making every attempt you can too slow things down and make them more expensive.

We had a 99% positive vote to strike in every local division on both craft’s unions. The only thing keeping us at work is a federal judge’s order. I’m sure his corrupt ass has a new lake house somewhere courtesy of my employer.

So morale is as bad as I have ever seen it.

Eh, it depends on the purpose. I definitely enjoy the 4Runner, but I also never expected it to be a speed demon. The only other one I've driven was the 2000 4Runner I owned, and I think it had 183HP. LOVED it but yeah it was a freakin' dog.

I don't blame you - I saw that in the military and in the gov't quite often:

Me: "Boss, I'm telling ya, we shouldn't do this, it'll cause X."
Boss: "Eh, do it anyways, it'll be fine."
Me: *does it, sh*t blows up*

    - in walks division chief -

Boss: "What happened? Why didn't you tell me about this?"

LOL, yeah you can’t fix stupid sometimes.

All the big Class 1 RR’s gleefully furloughed thousands of people at the start of the pandemic, as fast as they could. Then turned around and boasted about maintaining their profits. Nothing says we care like putting guys and gals out of work and cutting their health insurance.

Now they desperately need people and many furloughed employees have elected to not come back. They can’t fill hiring classes because the word is out that they treat employees like garbage and then furlough them. It’s like our “leadership” wants to operate like it’s 2009 when people were lined up to get a job out here, and they simply don’t understand reality. So their solution is to crack down even more, so now guys who were sticking around past retirement age or those who have years of service in but not age are just leaving in droves, compounding their staffing issues. No effort at all to incentivize working harder, just punishment and discipline for everyone. So we all have a bad attitude now and there’s probably no recovering from it until heads start rolling up top.

Our new CEO is a sociopath and has managed to do such a shitty job leading that we’re losing contracts. She’s a slow learner, and I don’t care at this point if she rights the ship or gets shit canned.
