Anyone know of a company making after market parts like grill, logo, Toyota symbols? I plan to do a chrome delete but torn whether to do gloss black or body color. I fear gloss black might make it to much of a work truck look, I have a 1794 which unfortunately is loaded with chrome. Plus I feel like it’s going to be cheaper to buy some of the parts as opposed to having wrapped i.e. the grill. Thanks

This is what I want done. But you would think the panels pre painted would be available somewhere soon for a reasonable price? By reasonable I mean less then the dealer. But they can’t even get them. Who knows what you do if you get in a wreck.

I plan to just wait till replacement parts are available through Toyota.
On my 2015 I got them color matched and shipped from Sparks (other places do it too) so that’s my route

…might be a bit more expensive but I am not the most handy person(plastidip and self wrap) and not a lot of time between work and 2 small kids so it’s worth it to me.

Trouble with any aftermarket emblems is that Toyota gets their knickers in a twist about it. You used to be able to buy aftermarket covers for the steering wheel emblems from 3rd parties, but it's a trademarked symbol and Toyota has shut them down in the past.

If you want OEM parts then I would get in contact with @Roman with Cool Springs Toyota. Even if you need something they can't ship he can at least get you in line for the part numbers, and he has an OEM parts thread somewhere, too.

Do you recall what it cost going that route? I like the idea of diy wrap but I don’t like that after a few years it will fade and look like crap and I will just have to do it again or get painted parts anyway. That’s assuming the wrap color matches well in the first place.

On my 2015 I did a full TRD pro grill and surround (painted in Celestial Silver) which were ~$400 and TRD pro headlights which were another $350. Then the bumper pieces (4 of them) were another $500 to replace the chrome ones with body color pieces.

On this one being a 22’ Magnetic Gray SR5 I just need the mustache and rear bumper inserts so it might be comparable or eleven cheaper.
I just need to wait 4-6 months or so when it’s all available (my estimate anyway) but that’s ok as I am waiting on a ton of stuff already with Rims on back-order and TRD lift kit yet to be released.

@Roman can confirm for me but I'm almost 100% certain that factory replacement parts for the grill surround and bumper do NOT come painted anymore (2022 models). The door handles and mirrors you might be able to get OEM but not the bumper and grill parts I already have been looking into it too. Finding a body shop to paint match will be the only way other than wrapping it.

Based on the recommendation of another member on here I am gonna try this kit that is available in all Toyota colors. He states it's pretty much an exact match for him.

Honestly I don’t think they came painted either a few years back when I did it (Sparks had the option of painted/unpainted…I chose painted and gave them my vin so they could color match it via a place they use).

Not sure what their process is now but I will be calling around soon to find out.

BTW…I am open to other folks (@Roman, etc)…just mentioned Sparks because they were who I used prior.

This is correct. Those particular parts are unpainted now for the 2022. As far as painting goes, I always recommend going with a local shop instead of having the parts painted and shipped. Reason being is if there is an issue with the paint, the shop there can fix it. Also, they are better able to match the paint on your truck versus someone that does not have the truck there with them. Sure, someone could get close, maybe even bang on without having the truck, but it's a guessing game due to the amount of variations there are on a single paint code.

hello Roman, I’m new to the tundra universe but I’ve been following the forum for a while. I’ve got a Canadian SR5 TRD OR. Eventually I’d like to do OEM colour matched chrome delete. It seems like you’re the guy with the knowledge. Is it just a waiting game till we can get the oem grille surround and rear bumper pieces? Thanks in advance.

Essentially, yes. Pretty much any part, really. I would definitely stop by a local body shop to see if they will paint over those parts. If that's the case, you won't need any new parts.

can you paint over the black "chrome" mustache on the platinum?

or do you have to buy a unpainted plastic one and then paint that?

already chatted with a trusted shop in my city, they aren’t comfortable painting over the chrome plastic parts. I’d rather spend a little more and get some factory oem painted ones, or oem bare and have the shop paint them. There is a different shop in town that will do it but the guys I trust say it’s a huge gamble and will likely not last and any chipping will look bad.

that sounds familiar with what I have heard. I think if I buy the platinum, its new plastic mustache to get painted locally, then have them re-paint the flares and tailgate piece once those aren't chrome.

similar for me, oem moustache painted locally, same with the rear bumper pieces. I actually like the black flares on my white SR5 so I’ll leave those. I may try and get part of the lower black portion of the bumper colour matched as well.

Most shops will operate this way. Paint just doesn't adhere to that type of material like a painted or unpainted surface. The plastic chrome, or actual chrome, is a terrible surface for paint.

I’m glad my shop was honest, I want it to be quality and look original. Will you be selling oem parts once they become available?

All this is actually why I switched from my normal MGM to black my platinum is pretty much color matched except for the dark chrome stash. That’s actually growing on me as originally purchased some good black gloss vinyl but holding off for right now. Only did center badge and wheel T emblems.

I’m not entirely sure to be honest. I know the owner of the shop that will end up painting my oem parts and he says they can do it, but he’s not confident in the results and would rather go the bare oem+paint match route.

I'm looking at some different methods of stripping chrome from plastic on youtube, google, etc. Next time I'm near a salvage yard, I plan to pull some trim pieces to experiment on. Not gonna pay someone $500 or so to vinyl wrap them when that money could be put towards a decent skid plate or a front bumper piece that'll mount shackles.

It’s funny you say that. I had planned on colour matching immediately, got advised by a friend to just wait and enjoy the truck, and the chrome has grown on me. Don’t get me wrong, I love the storm trooper look with all the white colour matching, but I still walk up and smile every time is see it the way it is, especially nice and clean. I’ll probably do like https://www.tundras.com/members/slicer97.74672/ and spend some money on a few more usable additions. After adding the vinyl, I can put the aesthetic’s on the back burner a bit. I may add the red vinyl “tundra” on the passenger dash to match the TRD on the grille.D75D6309-13A1-41AD-BC39-7C637E663612.jpg

Possibly. But it would cost a lot more than to just buy the part. The new mustache is only about $60-65.
