Here we go folks! Ordered 3 months ago but couldn’t install because my damn truck was wrecked. Finally got it back and installed today. You tube how to remove the passenger taillight, it’s not as straightforward as I thought. Not difficult, just an extra step i didn’t anticipate with the 2 grommets holding it in. Install took 5 minutes , hardest part was getting factory connectors to come apart. Does exactly what it is supposed to do, it turns off the license plate lights in reverse. Is it life changing, no. Is it a must have, no. Does it help with the camera at night, 100%. Happy with the purchase, absolutely would order again.
Great product and I’m happy to support a forum member selling a useful tool for our vehicles.

Definitely takes some rock climber finger strength to get the 8 position connector apart. I agree that’s the hard part.

OK, I'll bite -- what is the actual mod here? Is backing up in the dark a thing now?

It’s a wiring harness that turns off the license plate lights in reverse. The rear view camera angle catches them full on in the dark and they wash out the picture. Try tonight in reverse and see how bright the lights are. Then cover with tape or cardboard and see if you can tell a difference. Again, not a must have but it helps a bunch IMO.

Ah, thanks for clarifying what it is. The OEM reverse lights are hot trash. I installed a different brand and haven't noticed the wash-out issue, but will check now that I'm curious!

This has nothing to do with the reverse lights. It only turns off the license plate lights. They are located right in the center of your camera image at night. After install I put it in reverse and had a really good picture, when putting in drive for a split second the lights can be seen and it’s quite a difference.
