Roadmaster Active suspension review

I went with the HD version and it is set at 25%. i hadnt heard about this product until I posted about the sag i saw with a load after getting my front level done. I loved the look at +1.9 in front (i did 6112s) and stock in back.....then i parked it on a small incline with 400lbs of salt bags on the back and hated the squatting. Boats are harder to get than cars right now but at some point next year i hope to have a 5-6k boat to tow. My first impression is the RAS does the impossible - the ride is smoother and it handles better. i will measure the clearance but to my eye I think I picked up a little less than an inch of rake. overall I am very impressed withthis product and I look forward to no squat! this is with the salt bags - i will take another pic this weekend with the new setup and try to get loaded and unloaded.

 

Yeah, best investment in my opinion if you tow or load heavier. Even empty the ride is so much smoother.

 

For those that have the RAS, what it he final lift height after it has settled? I would like to get one but I'm level with my 4/2 and don't want a rake unless in is minimal enough that it isn't noticeable.

 

....someone called them and posted what they said for lift vs the tension rate but i dont see the post. i want to say .75 for 25% but im not sure about that at all

 

I will be installing mine in the next few weeks and will post up before and after measurements.

What I found in my research ( I did research on Tundra as well as Ford, RAM, GM half tons) was the HD set at most tension, black disk I believe, would net about an inch higher ride height. The thinner desk would lift .25 to .5. Some used a quarter for setting, which was in-between the two setting discs provided. This is based on the truck having good suspension vs sagging leafs, if the truck is sagging a little the lift would be more.

 

I have new Alcans and my lift is a 4/2. Following for your follow-up measurements.

They told me 1-1.5". depending on variables as each truck is different.

For anyone running RAS currently, how much restriction on droop are you seeing? They almond seem too good to be true so I’m doing my best to talk myself out of them lol.

 

1.5 hr in freezing cold and sliding around on snow. So in ideal dry warm conditions max an hr. No need to take the wheels off.

 

Before RAS I could see the back sagging quite visibly towing my fully loaded 7000 lb trailer. I didn't measure how much at that time. Now its going down 2-3" but is much less than before and most notably the ride is smoother with the trailer on, less sway and where in extreme bumps my bumps hit the frame there is no such thing with RAS. I use a weight distribution hitch when I have tools and supplies in the truck as I don't want to overload the axle and tires. Definitively RAS is great. One just has to still keep an eye on the weight limits.

 

I tow regularly, but my trailer is only 3800 lbs loaded, but 650 tongue weight, plus’s I keep adding tools to the bed since I put the retractable style cover on lol. I prefer to run without weight distribution for articulation, so I’m looking at all options right now.

 

RAS is perfect fit for you.

 

I just finished the installation and it went pretty smooth. Here are some before and after pictures. I gained exactly one inch setting the HD springs at 25% (white disc 1mm). I have @BOSS4x4s shackles set at the highest setting (third hole 2" lift). If the RAS makes the rear sit too high for my liking, I will need to drop the shackles to the middle hole. I will post pictures later when I get the truck outside.

 

So you would rather be level and squat like crazy with four passengers than have some rake and be closer to level when hauling something or someone other than yourself? haha

Lol. I just put in some Alcan springs and Timbrens.

 

If these solve my wheel hop problem or actually shuddering problem when towing I will be happy especially if it keeps the stock ride.

How many inches are you from ground to wheel well on front and back if you don't mind me asking? Is your total front lift 3" with the 6112's and the Boss Shims? I'm looking to do a similar setup and was curious of the overall difference. Truck looks great!!

Installing my RAS tomorrow. I found the leaf spring bolt torque, 77lb, however what size socket for the leaf spring shackle in the rear that you need to remove to install?

 

front then back drivers side then passenger side....basically have about 3/4" rake but a little more on drivers side for the known tundra issues. i need to do more measurements when loaded but my goal was lever and this rake isn't noticeable at all

 

Does the lift from the RAS settle?
