Where to mount Hi lift jack?

Where do you guys have your hi lift mounted. Pics please

 

i just have mine rolling around in the bed as well as the spare

 

Leaning up in the garage collecting dust. Ive found that a quality bottle jack is better than a hi lift.

I think hi lift is a dumb term for them, farm jack better suits it for its versatility on the home front

 

I’ve used a farm jack to move storage units, lift massive garage doors and hold up rolling gates but never to lift up a vehicle. That just sounds dangerous and stupid!

 

I’ve actually used one once on a 4runner without sliders……… the guy didn’t care, so onto the rockers it crunched!!! It actually wasn’t mine, but I knew how to use the jack better than the High school kid that pulled it out of his taco

If I'm running a camper, I mount mine to my bull-bar but only if I am going on an extended off road trip. If no camper and headed out, I mount it to the bed-rail. Otherwise it sits in my garage.

 

If you want a hi lift the best place to mount one is along the inside wall of the bed on the passenger side. You can get mounts for cheap or come up with some DIY bolts, washers, double nuts and wing nuts.

I have one I got second hand for free. I lifted my truck once on the street from the tow hitch and that taught me all I needed to know about hi lifts. I'm giving it to my cousin since he's a Jeep guy.

 

OP, if you already bought one, don’t be offended that we’re warning you off. But know, it’s not only because we 1st geners typically eschew FB and insta— but because they’re very heavy and large… and really dicey to use. If you mount it high on your bedside and go hard, it can do some damage where it’s mounted or when it breaks free. If you don’t drive fast off-road, this may not be a big problem for you.

All that said, if you’re running big tires and a high-lift bottle jack isn’t fitting your expectations, this is a better option… weighty and also challenging to store, but way more useful when you actually need it, in most applications:

I think @Cruzer did the same mod to some HF aluminum jacks as well. I’m waiting for the 2.5t to go on sale

 

Mounted at front of bed horizontally with the base at bed floor. Used a hi lift rail mount with lock from Amazon I think. Just dropped (2) 1" steel square tubes from the rails vertically to just above the bed floor and marked for drilling as needed for the mounting kit. It works, is secure, keeps weight forward, handy, etc. That said I also keep a 12 ton bottle in one trail box and plenty of 2×6 blocks in the truck as well. Nothing wrong with a hi lift if you know how and when to use it.

Nowadays the only time I bring a HLJ is when I go on some serious trails. You can always get pulled forwards, backwards, or even sideways by your buddies but a HLJ is the only thing that can get you to go vertical high enough to get you out of a fucked up situation. Ask me how I know

 

@Jasont before you ask where you should mount your hi-lift jack you should make sure you have the appropriate jacking points to use one. I see so many people on the road have hi-lifts mounted on their hoods and roof racks and yet no appropriate jacking points. To actually use it you'll need something to jack it off of like a front bumper, rear bumper or sliders. You can use their tire/wheel adapter to lift the front but then you would not be able to use it to change a tire if needed. You can sorta use it off the rear hitch if you use a hitch receiver with a D-ring although not particularly recommended. Nothing aginst HLJ (they have their uses) but I see so many posers out there with an 80lb ornament mounted to their truck that wouldn't know how to use one if needed nor would they have an appropriate jacking point.

 

Hi lift is a brand name. Farm jack is their generic name.

People that dont know how to use one or their vehicle isnt setup to use one shouldnt even bother carrying one.

 

I replaced my heavy ass Hi lift with an even heavier Pro Eagle. I hate both of them.

 

FWIW, don't forget these can be used for winching as well as lifting.

Is that how you have it mounted to the front rail? Hopefully you have more of those t nuts/slotted nuts

 

No, I found this searching for a mount to go on the side by side. This is the mount for the 2/2.5 gens I’m using -

 

I do have the t-nuts.

 

This is how I had it mounted in my old truck. It was solid and out of the way. Too much high speed stuff to mount it to the rail.

 

That is why I now have a farm jack! I use the oem bottle jack to change tires.
