    "How to improve gas mileage"
    1. Slow down - drag from wind really kicks in over 60mph, every MPH over 60 greatly reduces MPG
    2. Reduce weight - you're always towing, whether you hooked to a trailer or not. You're towing around the weight of the truck and all the mods. Less is more here.
    3. Reduce drag (lower the vehicle and use smaller tires with less aero drag and lower rolling resistance). Opposite of lift and big tires.
    4. Drive something more fuel efficient.
    5. Accept that what you bought has a capability that other vehicles don't. Accept the lower MPG. With great power comes shitty MPG. That 4.30 rear end makes towing a breeze, makes gas mileage crap. No other manufacturer offers a 4.30 rear end in a half ton. You could regear to a 2.73 or a 3.23 like all the others and pickup 2-3 mpg. Towing and performance will suffer.

The only mod I am considering that will result in better MPG is this one. :bikewheelie:

Is the bed long enough to carry that?

Might need a diamondback to secure it to ;)

I get 12.1 average on 35x12.5 MT and 3" lift. Offroading, around 11.

Could always ditch the tundra for a 4banger taco or prius that's more fuel efficient.

Agreed. Other than not driving the truck, this is the most effective method.

I’ve been warming the truck up (in the teens) just for comfort in the mornings when taking my 3 yr old to daycare. Mpg on truck calculator says 12.5 LoL. It will drop down to 12 after idling then after the drive goes back to to 12.5-13. So yes idling hurts it, but once again who cares! I even rolled the window down once because it got too warm one morning. Oh well lol

No listen I get the comfort aspect…. You have accepted it for what it is. But unfortunately accepting it or not…idling is terrible for the 5.7.

Does anyone know how I see my lifetime fuel mileage? I only bought it a month ago so just 900hours on it but so far I can only figure out how to get it to show the current tank mileage... Dad always said gotta be smarter than the object you’re operating...

Look for the *Menu button on the left side of your headunit (radio) In *Menu there should an *Info option. Once you click on that *Eco should be avail to view and reset if needed.

Love the ULY! I had a 06 in Black that I ended up changing all the plastics to white. I also raced a XB12R for a couple of years.

What brought me here, I have a trip coming up later this year. From what I have read so far, I will change the plugs, air filter, oil and maybe raise the tire pressure. I was hoping to find some good snake oil or magic fairy dust in this thread to make it go further on a tank.....

Hard tires, clean air filter and (i dont know about the newer trucks gearing, but) keep it under 65mph. In my ‘04 sequoia there were a couple mpg to be had kicking it out of OD under 55mph.

no cruise control, and try to hold constant throttle, not speed, through hills.

    ive also got a 9r.

Would be more interesting to calculate the Miles and Gallos of beer you save repairing your Tundra compared to other trucks.

Y'know, the funny thing is that everyone talks about 'how bad' the Tundra is when it comes to gas mileage....but I've never known a vehicle to NOT get worse mileage when modified with even a basic lift/tires - and in fact, oftentimes no 'mod' is required.

When I owned my '13 F150, it routinely got 16.9MPG if I drove it as easily as possible. At my first tire change I went with Falken Wildpeaks - and it immediately dropped 1.5-2MPG. Yet for some reason the Tundra gets all kinds of crap. GM fanboys can buy vehicles that have a) AFM and b) easily more issues with oil consumption; the vast majority of them disable the AFM and suddenly they get about the same mileage we do. Yet we get 1-2MPG less and it's a travesty. *shrug*

Very true. As soon as you move to any type of new tire/wheel setup that bigger, heavier, or more aggressive, the MPG will undoubtedly go down. Basic physics...
