From what Ive gathered on the GoFastCampers forum and GFC's updates, with the new V2 campers they are now doing batch builds. Which basically means they are doing groups of similar trucks all at once, somewhat regardless of build number. I think they mentioned they are doing Tacomas first since thats the highest demand. I'm not sure where Tundras land in that list but I'd say they'd have to be near the top since they seem like a popular platform for the camper. With that being said, it may be hard to determine any set dates or timeline unless its coming directly from them. I know some people who had orders in already and were given a set month for builds got their builds shuffled around with the new batch building process.

No problem. Even when I was planning my trip out to pick it up I was in same situation where I had a certain timeframe from work I took off according to their timeline at the time and it came down to me getting an email at 5:00 PM the evening before I was due to leave the next morning saying it was actually ready for pickup. It's pretty hard to nail down a timeline until you get the notification thats its done, at least thats my experience.

 

I even used the search function and didn't find this thread! Starting at post one, but looking forward to the read and impressions. I'm considering one at the moment, and I hope to get all the good details here! Thanks in advance to those who have posted.

 

The old man has a V1 was one of the first. It’s held up on multiple Baja trips. When gfc came out with the upgraded hinges they drove out around the country to add them to V1 owners. Super cool in my book.

Apologies for the necro posts and mass multi quoting, but I'm seriously considering a GFC and figured this is the best resource on here to get some info from multiple people.

Just tagging you to see if you might still be around. Not trying to ding for info or anything, but would love to see you (and your employees) be part of this community. Honestly, a huge draw for me to the GFC is the Made in America standard and the commitment to the product integrity I've read about. I hope to see GFC succeed for many years to come!

I scrolled this thread and tagged everyone that has one, or posted about getting one ordered. I'm hoping to get some good honest info if you guys are still around. The virtues and benefits of the GFC, V1 or V2, can be found all over everywhere. It's been really well received.

What I would like to ask you guys for, as some longer term owners, is the dirt. The bad stuff. Be nitpicky and what are the complaints, issues, or things you would change with your GFC? Would you buy it again? How has the tent material held up?

I know you sold your spot, @pbcolt, and I am guessing by your avatar that you have gone a completely different route. That said, with the lead times being trimmed down as they are now, would you consider a GFC at this point? Was it just the wait that put you off?

 

The V2 has better hinge material and overall addresses sealing a bit better. The V1 does in my opinion looks more Motorsport with the round tubing cage structure.

Dirt does get into the hinges so once in awhile just blow it out. Tent materials held up great they use the truck a lot. Dust and dirt does still get into the bed area but expected not a big deal. I definitely would purchase one and I know the old man loves his. If you need more insight or pics let me know and I can have him send more pics or info.

I'll have to watch through this, though I think I watched it before. My brain forgets things, and it doesn't help that I am distracted by your deeply disturbing avatar.

 

One question I have that I saw raised on GFC's forum was about the front window of the shell. Some had expressed that it was undersized in the V2 for Tacos because they used the V1 window and there is quite a bit more space between the supports on the V2. Is this the case for the full size GFC XL too??

The big concern I have about the front window is whether or not it can be opened. I have a CrewMax and I love that big roll down window, but cleaning it and getting any use from it seems difficult if the V2 window of the GFC is just fixed. Anyone have info on this?

While the GFC really does not appeal to me, I will admit this setup here looks really sweet. Like, “wow”, that is nice.

I hear you. The best justification I have for it is that according to GFC it can just live on the truck 24/7/365. Pressure washing is ok (don't be stupid obviously) and even touchless carwashes. It's the convenience of a shell/topper and a RTT all in one, and for the price it's not too out of line when you consider that it is American made. That alone makes me want to buy one from them.

 

Yeah, I’m with you. I wouldn’t even consider them if they were to impede the “truckability” at all. I use my bed a lot for everyday truck type use and really like they’re side hatches.

 

Made down the road from me... they're f'n everywhere here on all trucks... these and Sprinter vans...

 

Another option I’ve seen up close that looks fantastic is the https://www.superpacificusa.com/.

 

They look good, but they cost more than a GFC and are still sitting with a full year lead time. I also have some reservations about the beefiness. The hinges and handles are all just screwed together, and the hardware looks like it's generic. Not saying it'd break, but I think a GFC would take abuse better. Then again, generic hardware might be able to be replaced from home depot, whereas anything that breaks on a GFC is going to have to be sourced from them. The one thing that the Super Pacific has that I wish GFC did is the venting. I think it's a smart idea, and condensation/lack of easy venting is one of the few complaints I see on GFCs.

Two different approaches, and that's a good thing. It gives people options.

EDIT: Super Pacific doesn't have anything for the Tundra yet, either.

 

Are most people happy with them? Have you had any up close looks at the GFC? Your thoughts and impressions?

 

Yeah they're well built and built with pride...the owners will swap out hardware on older models when they develop or stumble upon something that's better and can take abuse. They also like hearing different ideas from their customers and sometimes those get implemented into the next versions. They do get a little dust if you're in the desert roaming around but nothing past what you'd get inside your truck frankly...they are incredibly expensive but it is 100% one of the instances with "buy once, cry once." More people are giving up their RTTs and going with this route and as suggested above, it's a good deal for both a canopy and a RTT all in one badass Space Station! It's the Gulfstream G700 of RTTs and/or canopies so once that's understood, you'll never want anything but this after...I have no connections with GFC but they are literally everywhere on all different trucks here, Tundras, Tacos, Rangers, F150s, Cummins, GM et Al...there is a reason why they are popular.

 

That is all good to hear. I really love that they are pushing hard to keep it all American made as well. That alone makes the price sting way less. It's not terribly prices either. I priced an ARE shell/topper locally and installed it was quoted at $4085.55 and 16+ weeks before deliver. Add on the cost of a quality tent like the at $3000-$4000 depending on models and options and it's really not much less than the roughly $9700 GFC as I would order it. The only way the GFC price is a struggle is if you are just looking at a RTT with no shell.

 

maybe not the 22's. But yes they do have models for the Tundra.

Not sure….there a few tundras on YouTube with them. Maybe they were first runs for feedback or something. His does say “Founders” addition on the title.
