Watching the Bourbon Junkies a few weeks ago they did a blind of the 4 OF products, 1870, 1897, 1910 and 1920. The order was 1870 last, surprise surprise 1920 3rd and they split on the top two, 1897 1st for one and 1910 1st for the other, so I wanted to try a partial myself, I have had 1910 but never 1897. Even though I just opened the 1897 today it was good but I still like the 1920 better.

Because this distillery (a bit of a misnomer, as they purchase from a major distiller in KY and blend in Park City, UT) is near us, my wife knew someone who worked there in some capacity. For awhile we were getting the 375ml bottles of this as gifts every couple of weeks. =]

Glad you got something good out of it!

For those of you who have had the other Wellers besides the 107 …… IMO the 107 is hands down the best….. can be had here in Central Illinois if you can find it for $80 a bottle….. I generally pick up 2 or 3 when I see it…..

Bought a bottle recently and it is now my fave under $100 Bottle O' Booze. If it still exists by next November, it will be my new "Birthday Scotch" cause the rest of the year I'm plenty happy with Johnny Walker Black, Bushmill's (or Jameson or Power's, whatever is on sale) and Wild Turkey 101.

I've bought a bunch in the last few months. My current favorites are Basil Hayden and Angel's Envy.

I haven't tried Angel's Envy but I really enjoyed Basil Hayden which a friend gifted me on my birthday a few months ago.
I wish they offered a 1.75 liter bottle and made it a bit more economical!

Angel's Envy is my top under $60 bourbon. Followed by Basil Hayden & Woodford Reserve.

I think they sell a larger bottle at Costco?

And for $45 or less, can't beat Blade & Bow or Four Roses Small Batch.

I wasn't a big fan of Blade & Bow when I tried it, but I should try it again... to be sure. I hear Four Roses is good. May be my next try.

Angels Envy is a pretty good sipper low proof with good flavor. Basil Hayden ( also a low proof) is not liked by most people, to me it's bug cleaner for the headlights the BH Toast on the other hand is drinkable. I do like Woodford very good stuff, Four Roses don't buy the 20 bottle it's crap. Try and find the Small Batch or the Single Barrel, the small batch ( has a floral finish) was my favorite of the two but after exploring higher proof bourbons and more complex flavors I haven't bought FR in a while. I am not sure if it is the right word but it seems our palette's evolve as you get into it more, oh yeah Blade and Bow is one I have never tried but on the list.

Could you give me a quick comparison of those two? I love ER (I mean, who doesn't...); but I don't know that I've had Mitchner's. If ER is your gauge, how does Mitchner's stack up in your opinion? What's the price point where you are?

I can't get ER where I'm at, but I see Mitchner's on the shelf. Might need something new in the rotation.

    thanks in advance!

As you said who doesn't love ER. For the first few years after I got into bourbon I really liked Michters, put away quite a few bottles but the last one I bought a few months ago had a very grassy taste and the tannins seemed very strong. So was it my tastes changing or a not so great bottle? I do say give it a go it is a solid pour.

Sure thing I'll quote your post later this weekend.

I'm also really excited for the russles SB vs the russles reserve comparison.

Honestly, equally good in vastly different ways.

You really cant go wrong with either. You drink the ER and your smacked with all the BT flavors. Michters is more of a honey sweet, ER is a caramel or burnt sugar.

Michters is an apple/pear fruit. ER I think is more of a dark cherry.

Finish is longer on the michters and has a darker, more tobacco style finish. I think the ER finishes quicker and sweeter.

I'd buy either at equal price points.

Both are a damn fine bourbon.

I think the michters has an 'oilier' mouth feel than the ER.

(My wife likes the ER better (blind taste test) because it doesnt have a "hot linger")

Now, that russels SB I was talking about, that's my new favorite on the shelf I think.

Was able to snag a couple unicorns this week. The 4R limited is incredible, one of my favorites. Haven’t had the full proof yet but seems like the 107 is slightly better.
