I’m curious to know how much of the reports are BS and not factual. I mean I’ve heard reports of people pulling over and trucks shutting off but for it to be on train tracks as it turns off seems to be unreal lol

The last few reports I have seen have been from the die hard fans that were posting in January and calling bs. I don't think it's bs. I think it's pretty apparent there's electrical issues. Also I think that steering recall is no including 2022 model year trucks.

There is obviously an issue not saying there isn’t. Only thing I’m saying is the truck just so happened to stop on the Train tracks is a bit much.

I have heard a lot of that. I wonder if it’s a problem with the auto stop feature. It’s usually when nearly stopped or coming from a stop. Like the truck can’t decide if it should auto stop or not. I know my truck likes to shut off when I put it into park just to start again when I take my foot off the brake. But that’s a different thing all together I think.

It seems just as likely as anywhere considering he was likely coming from a stop.

It didn’t stop on the tracks. It went over trucks and then lost power a few feet away

My f150 has startstop. Sport mode and start/stop disable are the first things I do.

I didn't accuse anyone...the person relaying the info worked for a dealership and did whatever they told him to. I thought it was rather odd that they would just pop of a vin plate and change it, considering there are many places that the vin is etched into the vehicle, including hidden vins....I guess if Toyota screwed it up at the factory and said.....hey...we put the wrong vin plate on that truck...all the other vins on that truck match except the plate...and can you swap that for us when it gets to the dealership......Otherwise...it is kinda very much illegal, but that is the dealers problem, not the poster. So I did not accuse "him" of anything.

You used the word “tampered.” If you don’t know what that word means in relation to Vin’s then please accept my sincerest apologies.

I’ve been getting a major hankering to trade my 21 LR Pro for a 22 platinum, but dang these issues are concerning. Really dumb question because I’m not mechanical at all, but will the hybrids have these turbos?

Why? Because it's a turbo, that's why. They are notorious for burning oil.

Burning oil or leaking from the new turbo and a rush job putting the oil lines back on.

So I got confirmation from a local service director at Toyota and apparently a software update is being developed to fix the waste-gate issue with the turbos. This leads me to believe that it’s a sensor or something and not the actual part. 4FFD9D35-342C-4A96-8AB2-F2846C3FCAF9.jpg

You think Toyota is telling these guys to say this until they can really figure out what the hell is going on?

The waste gate was binding and causing the issue. I can't see how a software update is going to fix a mechanical issue.

Just curious - has anyone experienced a turbo issue in either eco, normal, or sport? I would imagine drive modes would have no impact but just curious if it's been more prevalent on eco versus sport, etc?

Someone said it was a mechanical issue (binding) and someone says it is a software issue. So, I guess believe whichever one you want. Who the hell knows for sure

Why waste time and tear up a car if it's a software issue? Also, software bugs affect all computers that have the software, not just random few. I call BS on this friend.

If there is a bug in the program, getting a new computer ain't gonna fix shit ( in this case, a new installed turbo). You will still have the issue.

Thinking about it again, I guess if the software overworked or looped the computer, it could technically kill the CPU, graphics card, or ram, causing it to fail prematurely. Getting a new computer could fix it in the short term but only temporary.

    Edit:
If this is the scenario, shit is gonna hit the fan really quickly with a bunch of turbos failing if no software update by Toyota.

Just thinking out loud but a software update could fix the wastegate in this scenario. Say the wastegate gets bound up at 100% open but not at 98% open. Adjust it via a software fix to have the max open be only at 98% and boom problem solved. This is just me thinking out loud and has no merit in anyway...
