If that is something that you really want with your 2.5 gen it is very doable. The issues come when design changes lead to "dead ends".
The Toyota previous gen designers and 3.0 gen designers were two very different mindsets - different priorities.

Those seats are up. What does it look like with them down?

The other picture of an F150 I saw had a little piece that dropped down when you lower the seats to close off the storage.

There is nothing under the seats. No supports, no brackets, nothing. It's a fully open void space. The seat bottom is 'floating' if that makes sense. Which makes the floor one continuous, flat area for basically the entire rear of the cab. Its a very useful design if you need max interior cargo space.

This was on a 2016, which I will assume is the same from 2015-2020. They may have updated it a bit on the 2021+ but it should be similar.

I've been putting groceries in the bed for the last 30 years or so, I wish someone had told me before that I was breaking protocol.

A tundra forum member's first trip after pickup up his 2022. Great truck utility huh ?
I personally like my marble rye dry, not damp, and I like my Shreddies crispy not soggy, at least right before milk gets poured on them.
Did you guys know that in Ontario the milk comes in funny little bags ?

Is this meant to be some sort of complaint by the person? I don't get it.

No complaint I was illustrating with an example, that if given a choice, I use the dry not humid cab for groceries.
Unless my dog is in there already. He like Shreddies too.
Anyone ever taken a case of beer out of the bed, after it has rained and that trickle of water that all tonneaus let in, made the bed wet under the case?

Yeah storage when the seat is down is definitely lacking. I use it more with the seats up, which is why I haven’t done the storage bin mod that is super popular. It would be in the way when I’m carrying 8 guitars and a couple amps.

I keep ratchet straps, recovery strap, tire repair kit, cheap compressor, gloves, tools etc in a Plano trunk that is tied tight to a Total Chaos bed stiffener under my locked TCUSA bed cover. Like a bigger DIY swingcase.

I do really like the pic of the F150 that @Baldwin posted with the small under seat storage bin that is tucked in under the seat when it’s up. That would be very usable for me.

I wonder if this thread has changed any minds at all, in either direction. Or if it's just served as confirmation bias? I feel like for me it solidified my decision to order the F-150, but probably had the same effect if you already prefer the Tundra.

My F150 had a Ford (looked just like a bakflip) bedcover that never leaked. At least never anything I noticed...im sure a some drips got in there at some point, but I would consider it a dry space. I used the OEM Ford fold away bed extender to make a little fence for anything I didnt want sliding around. Worked great. It would let in dust around the tailgate if going down a dirt road, though.

I was sold on getting back into a Tundra after a bad experience with the Ford. So it didn't sway me in my case. I still contribute in this thread because I have owned both vehicles. The Ford is nicer in some ways and the Tundra is nicer in some ways.

Sounds like you had a bit of a lemon. You compared a 6 year old truck with a brand new Tundra too. Which in retrospect is probably a more fair comparison than to a new F-150 since I feel like Toyota basically brought the Tundra up-to-date as minimally as possible.

They don't have grocery bags in Ontario? Or he just felt the need to jam everything in there as randomly as possible to make it look like there's no space?

Probably the same progressive hipster crap as in Alberta. He likely forgot his save the planet, re-useable "green" bags at home and on principle refused to pay 10 cents a piece for the stupid paper bags that break and don't have handles and are only re-usable in the sense that they can be used as fire starter. Been there, almost every grocery trip. His tetris skills are weak though...

Bring back plastic bags!!! I actually re-used them for stuff, and I don't have to remember to bring the stupid fabric bags every time.

I like to take my reusable bags (all the ones I have I got for "free" from the university bookstore or my wife stole from her dad's work) to save money but I occasionally have to get plastic ones so I have something to use in our small garbage cans.

I definitely had a lemon. That's what I was afraid of when buying a Ford and they proved me right. Also I try to factor in that my brand new Tundra VS a 6 year old F150 isn't apples to apples, so I'm trying to keep it based on features and functionality...not styling.

I'll admit that I haven't done a lot of research on the 2021+ F150, and they are definitely nicer, but the underpinnings seem like they are the same old truck. And the functions and features aren't new. To me and the things I need in a vehicle, it seems more like a 2015 with lipstick than an all new vehicle that Ford likes to claim.

The reusable ones are functionally fine but they take up too much space, and I'm unconvinced they're actually greener on a per-use, lifetime calculation. Back in my day, plastic bags were free from the grocery stores and we would use them to line garbage pails, hold dirty rags in the garage, bring fish home from the lake and a million other uses.

I think the Fords are great on paper. Class leading numbers and all. I just know too many people with 2019+ F-150s (well, one is an Expedition but it has the same drivetrain) with 10-speed issues and cam phaser issues, not to mention a bunch of other little stuff. Actually, the guy with the Expedition recently sent it back to the dealer the dreaded cam phasers, and when they were done with it, the 10-speed starting acting up. He sent it back again, and they reprogrammed it, but it’s still not right after putting 3k miles on it. Couple this with the fact that the only long term reliability study in existence shows 18% (that’s 2% shy of 1 in 5 ) of F-series trucks have drivetrain issues within their first buyer’s ownership, and you can see why I’m not even considering a Ford. My anecdotal experience and the long-term data from the massive study (Dashboard Light, if anyone is curious) support each other.

I’m also not buying a ‘22 Tundra. Maybe at some point down the road. I kinda wish everyone else didn’t play the numbers game and built solid trucks with slightly detuned performance for longevity. I mean who cares what a $60k+ truck can do if it’s only good for 130k miles and a couple years of trouble-free use?

I'm probably passing on a 22 Tundra. I don't think the build quality is there for the price. Hoping the Sequoia is more refined .

I’ve been in an SR5, and 2 platinums. Build quality just isn’t like the 2021. My 21 Pro had some paint quality and body issues and a few interior alignment issues but it felt solid all around. 2022 for me just doesn’t feel it.

Why not? What does a 2022 f150 offer that the 2016 doesnt? Aside from the hybrid and 10spd, there isn't much other than cosmetic stuff. I look at 2021 as a refresh of the 2015, not an all new vehicle.

Depends on how you use it. If you regularly have three wide in the back it's nice for the middle person to not be kissing their own knees, or at least have more foot room. Also better for loads.

Better materials, better ride, more refined and quieter.

It’s not as big of a change as the Tundra but it’s still a better comparison to use.

The F150 is okay. I like it but I can see reliability concerns.

But the more I see and interact with the tundra it’s pretty disappointing quality wise. I’m really hoping the sequoia isn’t the same

It’s so when you carry smaller tools and items back there, they can slide all over the place. Mine always stay put in the foot wells, and it’s a real problem. :stirthepot:
