Need some help in diagnosing sudden high oil pressure on 2006 Tundra 4.7. Here are the factors. Ignition off oil pressure gauge reads 0, ignition on reads 80, engine running reads 80, turn engine off reads 0. I think the gauge should read 0 at all times when the engine is not running. Am I correct? What parts do I consider replacing. My OBD 2scan tool shows no codes are set.

I think you’re wrong. I believe as soon as you switch the ignition on without turning over the engine it should start the oil pump along with the fuel pump. I can only confirm if I checked, but it’s too cold outside now.

    It's good
My sending unit went out on my pressure gauge. Read low or zero. Now after replacement, reads 0 off, 30-40% light driving, 40-50% gunning it.

Mine stays at about 25% all the time while running and when I give it the beans it goes up to 35-40%

If you are getting 80psi with key on engine off then you most likely have a bad oil pressure sensor. Not sure if that is one of those only go OEM type of parts but that definitely seems like the culprit.
My only question is where are you getting the 80 psi number. Does your truck have numbers? Mine is just L and H.

Fuel pump only runs if cranking or if engine running. Toyotas are wierd and don't run the fuel pump with ignition on engine not running. Oil pump is mechanically driven by the engine so it would have to running to pump oil.

You are correct for our 1st Gen's. On a cold engine and once started, the gauge should be above halfway approx 3/4 mark. Once warm and at idle, the guage should be approx at 1/4 mark(FSM says 4.3 psi). The gauge should be approx 1/2 way with engine warm and 2000RPM's(FSM says 43-85 psi)

What line on gauge are you relating 80 to ?

If you have a volt ohm meter(VOM), check the circuit.

I Should have said high instead of 80. Mentally I converted high into number 80 to correspond the the approximate number of psi. My bad habit from having owned Chevy with 0 to 80 on the dash gauge.
