What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Curious, what you mean by longer? Are there rear shocks that allow for more travel?… I have Deaver Springs and if I’m not mistaken are made to allow more drop of rear tires. My rear shocks are Bilstein 5100s.

 

I relocated my upper shock mounts up against the bottom of the bed. Archive Garage kit.

It's total. The 5100s have 8" travel and the Fox 12s have 12". But, the 2 or so inches of up travel on a DC is a lot - I think you are AC? It's still a lot. The 12" shocks limit the down travel with the springs and shackles I have on. Just like stock shocks limit down travel. My springs will go further if I let them.

Edit, you reminded me I plan to measure the down travel with this set up, or just find a flex area, I kind of know where it stops, where the shocks bottom out. I'm considering measuring for limit strap mounting points.

The bed has to come up, not off. Maybe a foot up. I just took mine off because I wanted a good look at everything. I think 5100s are an inch over stock and when I looked them up, they were 8" of travel total - so where your truck sits under a load determines how far they can go up or down from there. I have 12" shocks now, but, my bump stops make them like 10.5-11" shock travel. Where my truck sits under load, and let's call it 10" of travel to be conservative, I have near 3-4" up and 6-7" down at the shock, which is close to the hub/wheel travel.

 

@Rheywood456, clearly you have done some work. Do you think the shock relocation and extended shocks got that much travel, or are springs and or hangers involved as well? I have all of it, I'm not sure what contributed what amount, other than longer shocks = longer travel. IF, you can fit them, lol. Shock mount relocation obviously does that part.

 

From what I remember the 5100s do have 1” extra travel vs stock. I have bump stops as well which I CONSISTENTLY hit on trails. So much so I’m surprised they’re still intact.

Dumb this down for me please, how much more down travel(4” is what I’ve understood so far and seeing @Rheywood456 post showing 4” ) can someone expect from this mod?

 

It’s a combination of the shocks and springs. I am running Deavers (Overland Expedition Pack by Archive). If you have stock leafs your leafs will be the limiting factor.

I get around 15” total travel (stuffed / articulated to fully drooped). The Foxs I’m running around I think have 12.5” of stroke. Much better compared to the 8” Icon 2.0s I was running.

 

When you talk about bashing bump stops, and then down travel, I think we are confusing terms. And, it's confusing, I had to look it up.
Up Travel = wheel toward truck
Down travel = wheel away from truck
Bottom out (shock) = wheel toward truck
Top out (shock) = wheel away from truck

If you are hitting bump stops regularly, you need springs. And bad springs like I and @Rheywood456 have. Bad meaning medium to heavy. I had some awesome Deaver springs, until I added weight, then I bashed bump stops all day. They were not right for me. But, sounds like you have a spring problem, not travel - Although, better springs want more travel.

 

First things first, appreciate you taking time to explain things bud. I’m on same page about up and down travel. Now I also understand bottom/top out of a shock.

I mentioned bump stops since they’ll determine up travel and thinking about it now, seems they’ll somewhat limit down travel on opposite side as well I’m guessing.

I had stock bumps till I replaced them(can’t remember maker but they’re the yellow ones that are about twice as tall as stock) when I put in Deaver Medium duty leaf spring packs.

Even when my bed isn’t “fully” loaded/bed isn’t sagging, I hit my bumps. Shoot I hit my bumps when I have hardly anything in the bed. Figured it’s just how Deaver springs are/what allows for a smoother ride on streets.

 

If you have medium deavers, I'm guessing they aren't tall enough for you or are only rated at 200 lbs load, which as I type, is kind of the same.
1st gen Tundras, as I have learned, don't have much up travel. I had stock, then Deavers - both level springs. I had to go to a medium spring, that raked a ton and was rated at up to 600 lbs. It lifted the rear by almost 3" empty. I tamed that by almost an inch with drop shackles. I don't hit my bumps anymore. And, I'll never look back. I learned that on these trucks, level is only level until you hit a bump or add a load. I'm sure you and I have had the same experience and you need heavier springs.

 

I want my truck to ride like a stadium super truck. Carrying the inside front wheels through corners, front bottoming and rear jacking on the brakes…

 

My medium Deaver are supposed to be 600lbs. But, I had no where near 3” of lift. I had Deaver build a custom set for medium and 1 1/2” lift but when I installed them, had only 1/2” lift. I had even bought and installed total chaos shackles cause I was expecting a larger lift but ended up removing them cause I actually ended up lower than stock with them on.

 

My Deavers were the G57. 1"over. They were about stock height with a Tonneau cover on board. I've heard of custom built +600lb and happy customers, but you got what I had. Super soft and nice, bump stops, here we come. I sold mine and got back a good part of my money. But, you can rebuild those - I could have too. I was done with it and wanted a swap in I knew was going to do it.

Interesting. Maybe something went wrong on my springs. I called Deaver about only getting 1/2” lift vs 1 1/2” and they said they’d rebuild and do what it took to make it right. Wanted medium/600lbs cause I was planning on extra weight with RTT, sliders etc. I figured I’d wait till I had all the extra weight on before asking them to make any changes.
