Meso Customs Tundra Blackout Vent Rings question

I ordered a set of the Meso Customs Tundra Blackout Vent Rings for my 2020 CM TRD OFFRD. I noticed that they have a glossy shine look to them and not a matte black finish. For those of you that have this kit are yours also a glossy shine look to them? I was hoping that they would off beeb the matte black. I also ordered the shifter Chrome Delete Kit and it comes in matte black as well as the Tundra 4X4 Ring Chrome Delete. Thank you guys!

 

Rub some alcohol over it or windex and see if you can reduce the luster...do you have a photo that could be shown?!

Hate the idea of having to rough them up but please post pictures of yours after you rough them up please.

 

Following. Hopefully this will resolve the issue. Was hoping the vents would be matching the color of the cup holder shifter trims.

 

Maybe try buffing down the sheen with some steel wool? Might work

 

No, use the #0000 steel wool, all it does is buff the sheen off. It’s a very fine steel wool. Doesn’t scratch, just dulls the shine.

 

Here's how they came, I haven't done anything yet. I also got the shifter chrome delete kit, I held that up with the vent chrome delete kit and the finishes doesn't match.

 

It seems like there's about 3 or 4 people on this thread that agrees that the finishes doesn't match. I'm going home a hour from now to start painting the Meso vents with a satin gloss clear coat from SEM

 

shoot…I got the gloss ones as well and decided to roll with it. Kinda wish I had waited cuz I’m not tearing the whole dash apart again

 

Hey just reached out to Meso Customer service via support ticket and the guy Austin S. was a lot of help.

 

Sheesh all that to replace the vent rings... I definitely will need to find a good time and day to do all that. As much as the chrome vent rings bother me, it's not much of an annoyance like the shifter and cup holder trims.

 

Yeah it takes 3-4 hours to pull it all apart and reassemble. I was probably closer to 3 hours because I had done most of this once before to install the Rago dash plate. It’s not really hard, just time consuming. I will say that I really love the look of the vent rings and since they are far away for the other blackout items it is hard to tell it’s a different finish.

 

You truly have to take apart the dash like that to change the vent rings? I guess I am sticking with the chrome.

 

Worth the effort though. The chrome even with tint all around still causes glares.

Yeah I've taken my dash and the center audio apart before also to run wires for my switch pro and also installed the ICS Fab dash mount so I know the amount of work forsure....

 

Or get the stick on ones, they look the same.

 

i think that is a pretty good option for most people but living in AZ has proven problematic for products using stick on adhesive. The inside of the vehicle gets too hot

 

Dang……that’s a huge job just to get rid of the chrome vent rings.

I went with the sticky ones so I’ll find out how they hold up this summer in the heat.

When I start doing my interior I’m going with AJT design. They are fine and work well. I’m busy doing my exterior mods. Oh yeah that’s right my sound system is done. Loving that.

 

It can be a pain to install. But MESO's offering is more of an OEM offering rather than VHB tape. Keeping the same (or close to) profile of OEM parts etc. Adding parts like AJT adds material and the surface is now protruding > the OEM surface. These will not ever fall off due to any kind of weather condition. Most people it's a non issue. All a preference.

 

I felt too intimated after watching one of these YouTube videos and seeing everything apart. I was like Wow…that’s a big big job.

So I got the stick-on ring covers. Got them in the Color Matched (Cement) but I didn’t really like the look. I did everything else using a gray color so I decided to stay with the gray. I used Plasti-dip and then sprayed 5-6 coats of rust oleum matte clear enamel over the dip to harden/toughen up the dip.

So far everything’s held up perfectly. My pup seems to always have her paws/nails on the cupholder/console area and still No Scratches! Also did the shift-knob.

 

Just received my replacement. I might make a video or a write up to help people with this install and the shifter area
