I was shocked when he had it! I was in getting my amp wiring upgraded and he was jokingly trying to sell it to me, since I already head one.

I think you would be much better off doing aftermarket amp and speakers if you can justify the $. the factory system in my 2016 SR5 was horrible.

That's the Pioneer unit. Great looking and definitely would go for it if had built-in NAV. The Pioneer NAV unit is a small screen.

I would prefer to use Carplay/AA unless I'm off network. Then, I'll use something that's on my phone with downloaded maps. I will never buy into an in-vehicle solution. I have never seen one that I liked and didn't require a paid map update.

Had the 1057 installed at my local shop last week. They had several in stock. They're also extremely anti-Pioneer, to the point that they stopped carrying them altogether several years ago. They said their quality control had become really bad. I know there are posters here that are happy with theirs, but this was coming from a shop with a sparkling reputation locally, so I figured I'd mention it.

Anyways, I couldn't love the 1057 more. So happy with it.

That is awesome....what is the difference between the 57 and the 37? I had reached out to James at tech12volt last year and he said he could never get the 57 and was selling the 37. I ended up getting the 1007 thru a dealer since I wasn't going anywhere near that install. I pulled my dsr1 and all the speakers etc...I had already upgraded everything prior to the HU swap.

not much -crutchfield lets you compare....i think there is a voltage power difference either 6 vs 5 or 5 vs 4....i read that the higher volts may have less electronic hiss noise but i have no idea if thats accurate. i wanted the 1037 and actully bought it when a 1057 showed up for the exact same price

Yes correct. Its the metra kit that crutchfield offers. I cut it at the bottom to push the screen back further.

I have the Kenwood DNR1007XR (plus a front facing camera to help with parking that beast) installed since DEC '21, in my 2021 TRD Pro. I give it very mixed review.

    PROS
-GREAT Sound (MUCH better than the stock unit)
    -Lots of options, gauges, etc
    -No glare screen
-Nice haveing a large screen for the cameras (front & back)... when they work...

    Cons
-Android Auto drops out A LOT!!! I don't think I've had one trip, even short local trips, where it hasn't dropped out at least once. and yes, I've updated the firmware on 3/27/22
-Front camera does not always come on at slow speeds (like when parking)

As someone who, like most of us, lives in our phones, the Android Auto drop out is a big issue for me. I like using Google Maps for navigating, and having the apps on my phone available while driving. Having paid $1500ish for a top of the line premium head-unit, I am disappointed.

I've heard that Apple Car Play does not have that problem, but having to switch from Android (which I've always used) to an Apple phone (which I've never used) just to have my audio system work AFTER paying $1500 seem ridiculous.

Anyone have the same issue with Android Auto? Any ideas?

My wireless connection drops about twice a month, and I drive a lot. I have 70k miles on a 2.5 year old truck. I think it's more of a Android/phone issue than Kenwood.

    What phone are you using?

Mine drops out regularly. Even on short trips. I had the unit professionally installed too...

I use a 21 ultra. If you have an Apple friend, or someone with a different model phone you can borrow, I'd see if you get the same disconnects. I'm betting the problem is in your phone.

Do you know how to check battery optimization for app? If so, turn it off for Android Auto and Google Play services.

    Clear cache on Android Auto.

If that doesn't work, clear data on Android Auto.

An even more drastic approach would be to factory reset your phone.

It drops the connection between the phone and the stereo. Sometimes it's just a momentary pause, sometimes the whole connection drops. This morning, it dropped twice on a 20 min drive. One time it displayed "An access error of the USB device has occured" and then I had to select my phone again to restablih the connection. FRUSTRATING!!!

OK, so lets get more specific here.
I understood "dropping" as a complete disconnection from the head unit.

If you're referring to a brief second or two of the sound dropping out while it maintains the connection, that is an Android Auto or Spotify bug. I just started noticing it happening to me in the last month or so while using Spotify, and it happens often.

As for the connection dropping, I use wireless and maybe twice a month it will completely disconnect.

Your error leads me to believe you're using a cable to connect?

I have a older Kenwood 2-3 years in another truck and it drops out apple car play on a iphone 12. It's not the phone it's the radio.

That is why i went with PIONEER this time.

The kenwood even crashes and reboots. It's on the newest firmware so far i have had zero issues with the PIONEER.

It's a definite upgrade. Nothing mindblowing because the factory speakers aren't anything special, but I can tell a difference.

To me, upgrading the head unit was night and day. It woke the shit out of the stock sound system. Upgrading the speakers along with it didn't really do much. Upgrading the stock speakers along with an amp made a much more drastic difference.
