I want to install a powered lock/unlock for my tailgate. OEM or aftermarket, which one is more reliable, quite etc? Would also be great to be able to push a button and have the tailgate drop, anybody ever done this? Thank you guys!

OEM is quieter and completely plug and play.

the pop and lock has now a plug and play too. They added a extra harness so you don't have to splice into wires. I just ordered one and there are videos how to install. Here a good one but without the extra harness.
Haven't seen a tailgate drop option on Tundras. https://youtu.be/QeO8hdPzgIc

I have a 2021 PRO and chose to use the OEM part. I'm very happy with it and feel it was well worth the expense!

I had my dealership parts manager price match the lowest on-line price I could find. Got the part before the truck even arrived. Added it to the “mods” pile. So it was installed just days after I drove the truck home.

Super easy install and I actually found it fun! I did watch a couple YouTube videos prior. Took a little over an hour and I took my time. It does make a thumping sound when it locks/unlocks so you are aware that it worked.

you guys are lucky in US. Here in Canada everything is much more expensive. Sometimes its even cheaper ordering online in US and get it shipped incl customs. The cheapest I found is pop and lock at Amazon for 240$ CDN. Dealership is over 350$.

When I got my truck I asked the sales guy how much is it if I have them do the tailgate remote lock and he looked it up……$568.88

I almost fell out of the chair laughing so hard. How frick’n CRAZY is that???

    I paid like $138 w/tax.

If you know anyone stateside maybe they can get it for you, so it would be like $140 plus shipping.

I went OEM and love it, should have been standard on any power door lock equipped truck.

I always go OEM whenever possible.

OEM parts are almost always the best longest lasting parts.

Plus, this way they can't try to void your warranty based on your "mod".

Install took about an hour or so, taking my time on the ground laying under the truck no jack.
I was more sore from laying on the ground scooting around and holding my arms up to run the wire and zip tie it than anything else.
