    Hi guys, first post.

Just wanted to get everyone's opinions that might have moved from a Tacoma to a Tundra. I'm in the process of possibly trading my Tacoma for a 14 Crewmax with the 4.6L (I know not everyone's favorite, as mpg is similar to 5.7 and 5.7 gets better towing, gearing, etc.). Right now it's just me and my dirt bike, but have always had Tundra lust and a good deal on a used 14 Sr5 popped up. I realize I'll be sacrificing some MPG and of course maneuverability but wanted to see what everyone's thoughts were that might have moved from a Tacoma to a Tundra and those that have the 4.6L config.

Thanks, look forward to sitting back and learning from you guys. Attached pic of truck I'm looking at, looks like its leveled, not sure if this is achieved the same way as Tacoma's and what to look for or avoid. I know the grabber's will definitely affect MPG a bit.

Welcome from Colorado. I came from a Taco and couldn't be happier. I got the 5.7 though cause it's Colorado and you know, mountains.

The MPGs are not that far off from from what I looked at; maybe 1-3 MPGs which I didn't consider material enough when getting extra space and power. You will lose some maneuverability if you go off-roading and hit tight switchbacks, if not, the truck is more than capable.

If you think it's a good deal and you live the truck, go for it. They have great resale value and could always go back to a Taco if you find it suits you better.

But you do pick up chicks easier in a Tundra

Welcome from CO! Do it right and cry once, IMO. Many guys kick themselves in the ass for getting the smaller engine as it's about cheaper. Power between the two is night and day.

That being said there are members here with the smaller V8.

I came from a Ranger Edge into a '16 CM Pro. The ranger isn't a taco, and Ford is not Toyota, but just in terms of size/maneuverability I couldn't be more pleased with the Tundra.
I considered a Tacoma when looking for a new truck, but then I sat in the backseat of the crewmax and that settled it. I love my Tundra and can't see myself owning a different truck until Toyota decides to release it in a diesel.

Lol. I agree, girls are not impressed by Tacomas only other tacoma guy owners care lol.

I had a 14 Silverado for a bit but wasn't a fan of the fit and finish/look, ended up back in at Tacoma. I totally agree, even my double cab tacoma leaves room to be desired with passengers in the back.

Hi Sean! Thanks for the welcome. I'll have to test drive both. I'm just having a hard time finding 4wd used trucks here in AZ, when I was in NJ 2wd didnt even exist, here 4wd is a hot commodity. Thanks for the advice. I will be sure to take my time before pulling the trigger on engine size.

Thats a huge jump lol. I agree the tacoma double cab even is something to be desired as far as passenger space. Thanks for the help!

Welcome to the site sir :hattip:
I always wanted a tundra from day one. I ended up with a blacked out taco (that I loved). It made more sense financially at the time. My wife will vouch for me, but every time I saw a tundra I would say I should of gotten a tundra. After someone smacked into the side of me (I did get the taco fixed at a Toyota dealership collision center) I saw an opportunity to use it as an excuse to start fresh with a new truck and couldn't be happier. I have zero regrets changing over. Tundra = man card is moto. This site is where the big boys play :transformer:

    Welcome!

I came from a Taco and haven't looked back. I opted for the 5.7 because I knew I needed it like Jose living up here in the mountains. Makes things really easy going through canyons and pulling anything I need it toO.

There's not a lot of major points when looking over your truck. Obviously make sure there's no weird noises and check for leaks of any kind...

I know @Law323 has the smaller engine configuration. But it hasn't stopped him from ranting and raving about his truck like all of us addicts do.

The majority of us are people who came from Tacoma. I'm hard pressed to say you'll find a better truck out there 99 percent of the time.

    Regardless, welcome from UT

Hey man, I traded a '16 Taco for my '17 Tundra and haven't looked back. It is more comfortable, smoother, cruises at 75, 85, 95, or whatever, ties my camper with ease, carries my gear, etc., etc. The Taco had some cool Tech that the tundra doesn't have, but nothing that was critical. MPG is only slightly below where I was with my Taco.

Great truck that I'm very happy with.

Oh the smaller engine still has more than enough power for my needs, but I will say the next tundra I get is going to be the 5.7 hands down!

Welcome from CA. I got the 2016 TRD CM w the smaller engine. I didn't care about the MPG but it was more about saving 1500 between the larger engine and smaller. The smaller engine is more than capable of most things and since I don't tow or do anything heavy duty it was fine. However, if you could cough out the extra $$ then I would go with the bigger engine. I live in CA so 99% of my driving are on streets and freeways though.

Welcome from Colorful Colorado! Do it! I had 6 Taco's, and the last one was a 2016. I traded that in for a 2016 Tundra and never looked back. I loved the Taco's but the Tundra has so much more to offer. Every time I sit in it, I have to smile and the feeling of, " damn I glad I got the Tundra". I know I'd be kicking myself if I settled for the Tacoma.

Lol, you sound like me 00, 08,11, 15, 16 and 17 tacoma (17 was lemon replacement from toyota for 16). Though I love the new tacoma interior, that's about the only hold out/thing for me. I'm struggling though to find a damn decently priced 4wd crewmax here in AZ.
