So I have a new 2021 Tundra that came with a lifetime powertrain warranty from the dealer. I see a lot of guys are buying extended Platinum warranties from Toyota. Are they worth the cost? Despite all the hype in looking as to what it covers I am not sure. Lots of stuff still would not be warranted. I was considering the 10 year 100K plan if anything which really is 7 years when you consider the factory warranty given at time of purchase. I usually keep my vehicles for some time and in the current state of affairs I have no intention of buying anything new soon as the wife and I never even get close to 10k miles in a year. What say thee?

It depends on how well you sleep at night.

If you're worried that you might be the .01% that has a catastrophic problem with your truck that costs <what you paid for the extended warranty + $xx > then you should probably buy an extended warranty.

If you have enough money in the bank that <what you paid for the extended warranty + $xx > doesn't really concern you if it happens, then don't buy it.

    It's really that simple.

I bought one because I like peaceful sleep.

Exactly. Is auto insurance worth if if you don’t ever file a claim?

Your in a slightly different position OP because you have a drivetrain warranty. I would assume there would be a lot of overlapping coverage with both plans.

Personally I bought a 10 year 100k warranty simply for the drivetrain coverage, nothing really more. I don’t have the trans cooler and I don’t want to install one. If I had a gun at my head I would say “my transmission is going to be just fine with temps occasionally going to 230 240 degrees”. I believe it can handle it and will get me well over 100k with how I drive and tow but nonetheless I have a warranty to not have to worry if I was wrong.

I own several Toyota’s and lately I have been presented with some large repair bills therefore I am for the extended warranties. I use to be admittedly against them…

There are scenarios where certain repairs won’t be covered. I don’t waste my time worrying about that because we have no control over that.

Guys I was referring to what exactly covered. Seems a lot of stuff isn't like alternator and stuff. That is unless I am reading the things covered wrong.

I've had seven (7) new-from-the-dealer Toytotas since 1985. I've never once bought an extended warranty. I've never once said to myself "I sure wish I had bought the extended warranty cuz it would have covered this."

EDIT: as a point of reference my 1997 T100 4WD with 262,000 miles is on the original water pump.

Service manuals are pretty cheap, lots of salvage parts available. Your choice.

All the Toyota's I have had in the past had issues with black trim turning grey, paint fading and rubber seals around auto glass dry rot and go bad. None of these things are covered under the extended warranty.

Might wanna try Starbrite marine protectant. Great stuff for UV resistance.

It doesn't cover wear and tear items, like stated in the previous posts. I do believe the extended warranty is worth it if you get a good deal on one, there's a dealer on another toyota forum and maybe here that was selling members warranties little above cost. I had two extended warr. for my 07 camry and 11' HL and both vehicles had the steering column noise and got it both replaced. The HL also had the water pump go bad at 80K miles, that itself basically covered the cost of the warranties.

I also bought the 7yr/100k warranty for my Tundra as well, Toyotas are great but shit does happen.

    I got the 9years 100k coverage , you never know .
I had a brand new 2013 rav4 for my wife , torque converter failed and it was at 62k , had to file a complaint for them to cover the 4000 $ repair bill since it passed the 60k powertrain factory warranty, they end up paying it but had to fight for it .
Don’t wanna go through this again .
My wife has a 2020 highlander and I will be buying the extended warranty before the 3 years mark
