Clean setup…per my calculation those are like 35.1” tall right (though not the standard 12.5 as a true 35” tire), I like it.

…answers the question a lot of folks had (me anyway) if 35” on stock setup will rub…which it all comes down to the width.

Has anyone gone about re-calibrating their speedometer after adding larger tires? Putting some KO2s on in a couple of days and want to re-calibrate the speedo pretty quickly after adding them.

 

I asked the dealer and they said I don’t know..... I figured I would download a mileage tracker so I can still do my mpg until the aftermarket catches up. Hopefully someone releases something soon. I’m going to call a different dealer tomorrow.

 

My buddy is a service manager and they don’t have the ability to yet.

 

@Rwaters When you go with your 2" spacer up front, are you thinking you'll have to chop the OE struts bolts at the top to fit the spacer. I'm checking out a 1-piece 2" spacer like the Dynofit instead of the Rough Country. It looks like I wouldn't have to chop stock bolts, unlike the Rough Country leveling kit.

 

Based off of what I know, you shouldn’t have to cut the strut bolts. The spacer should go on without any cutting. I even looked at other companies directions on a 2” and didn’t see any that required cutting. I went with the link below. I’m going to attempt again this weekend to install it, so we’ll see.

I have used washers as spacers before to keep from cutting the studs.

 

I'll probably be doing mine this weekend as well since I get Monday off for Presidents Day.

I ended up going with this cheapy 2" spacer:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0796QDVBG. Seemed solid enough since it's one piece. I've got both the RC and this one coming. I'll compare the two to see which require less cutting.

I thought about going that route, but I was a little worried about reducing the contact area to just the washers.

 

I have that same kit on my 21' currently. No cutting required but you do have to rotate the spring and top mount slightly since the bolt pattern shifts. Pretty easy though. The RC kit has to have the studs cut so the bolt extensions can thread on and still remain shorter than the spacer. Torq Engineering uses that same design but since their kit is for 3" lift the spacer is taller/thicker so you don't need to cut the studs.

You can see the top mount stud is still intact with that 2" lift spacer.

 

First MOD! Did not require a leveling kit. Black Rhino Odessa wheels and my old Cooper AT3 295/70/18 from my 2020 Tundra. Used a +12 offset. Just had to cut some fabric that was protruding out from the wheel well, but other than that, nothing was cut. No rubbing.

 

I don't think I've ever seen wheels like that before. They're very...unique. They're 18" rims but because of the trim, they look like 17's. It's interesting. Certainly will stand out.

Thanks @KroppDuster ! I thought so too. Was going to go with a bronze wheel since I love that look, but the uniqueness of this particular wheel/look won me over. Defintiely different but I like it.... If I could've only found my FUEL Covert's (on my 20 Tundra in my profile pic) in a 6 bolt pattern, I would have used those. Still bummed that I couldn't bring those over to this truck but am happy with how this turned out. I will now have to sell those Covert's to another lucky Tundra owner becuase these Covert's are impossible to find...and rare/unique.

 

Is there anything else, besides the speedometer that needs to be recalibrated after installing bigger size tires?
Back in the day when everything was mechanical with no electronics it was not a problem, but these new Tundras come with all kinds of sensors etc.
Also doesn't it result in warranty being voided?

TBH...I'm not 100% sure on other systems that need to be recalibrated. Maybe the TSS front radar, but I don't know 100%.

Regarding the warranty question: For any modification to void a warranty, the servicing dealership has to find that the part failed as a direct result of your modification. I.E. If you bring in your truck because the CV axles failed 2,000 miles after putting in 4" spacer pucks...then yeah, they wouldn't cover replacing your CV axles because of that. But, if something totally unrelated like your head unit fails or your heater goes out...they'd still cover it under warranty because putting on a spacer lift had nothing to contribute to those failures.

That being said, there's so many dealerships selling trucks with "dealer mods" that it's not as big of a deal nowadays as it once was. There are tons of dealerships out there selling brand new Tundras with 2" spacer lifts and aftermarket wheels & oversized tires.

Hell...when I bought my 2012 4Runner and brought it in for its first service appointment, the service manager said "Man, this thing would look great with a small spacer lift and some 34"s." I asked if that would void my warranty and he said, "Nah. We're a very 'mod-friendly' dealership here. Most are nowadays." 3 weeks later I slapped a 3"/1" spacer lift on it with new tires. Been running that same lift with the original ball joints/coilovers/shocks since 2013. I only had a few warranty issues with it over the years and none of them were ever denied...nor were any of them suspension related.

 

From what I understand, here in Texas. If a mod voids warranty they have to prove it was the mod that did it. Kind of like when dealerships say you have to use a specific oil and what not. They’re technically supposed to provide it at that point.

 

The reason I am asking is that I stopped by my local dealership today and the guy told me they would not replace the 265/60R20 tires with 275/65R20 size tires because of different sensors and warranty issues, did not give any specifics only said I needed to go to a different shop to get it done. BTW: I don't have my truck yet, still waiting for it.

 

Don't judge my terrible photoshop skills. Torn between waiting till summer for TRD PRO take-offs.. or going with Fuel Vectors & Wrapping them in Open Country AT3s. Thoughts?
Window tint goes on next week, and will install a leveling kit when the automatic running boards become available.

 

Between production issues that may impact how many TRD pros roll out and the fact that those are forged BBS that many owners may keep, it may be a LONG wait for takeoffs.

Oh…a bunch of folks have the same thinking also (myself included) so we are all there with you in evaluating our other options.

Yea that picture does make the 6.5 look extra long... maybe its the harsh sunlight. You're probably right it'll be a forever wait.. not sure I can hold out that long. I may just pull the trigger on some aftermarket wheels/tires

I doubt you'll start seeing take off wheels for sale before mid to late Summer. My local dealership said they don't expect their first TRD Pros until late May/ early June.

 

I haven’t reviewed the warranty so idk. Some dealerships are fully against mods and others aren’t. So they always have some excuse or say something that is completely false. Part of the reason the automotive industry is so broken. I’m going to read into it, because now I’m curious on what it specifically says.

 

Yes it’s so subjective with these dealerships.

My dealership did the lift on my 2015 years ago (3/2 lift)…something they advertise as “these will allow your Tundra to run 35’s”

…they also set up the swap of my current 295/70/18’s from my 2015 to this new 2022 without any issues so it’s definitely each working to their own rules.

having said that…from a warranty perspective they have to show direct cause of the claim you are making was due to a mod any of us made (that’s not installed by them or covered). I realize this can also been subjective as I won’t say ALL dealerships have the same level of integrity so the choice is for each of us to make.
