My dealer told me last week that Toyota isn't taking custom orders yet (specific trims and packages). Were they lying to me?

Don't think so...I basically put in mine and the people at the dealership will get as close as they can.

Probably have to pay extra for a bunch of dumb accessories.

I don’t have a video, but I did drive a Limited and a Limited TRD OR on the same day, ( about 40 mins apart in different towns) My butt meter said the TRD did feel a bit smoother/ softer

QUOTE="atlas1886, post: 2641552, member: 74277"]I ended up getting decision fatigue and ordering an SR5 with highest TRD Off-Road package. I have spent like 25 hours staring at packages and trims and I can't take it anymore. In my heart of hearts, I want a 1794, but I feel like I can't justify the extra cost vs the aforementioned.[/QUOTE]
I don’t need this responsibility in my life… I am also in the same boat and primarily want the 1794 for the brown leather. It comes with all of the bells and whistles which I don’t really care for so paying $5k-$8k more over an sr5 or limited for essentially an interior look and feel seems irresponsible for myself and my situation. I have a deposit on 1794 CM OR 6.5bed but I told them if they get any trim in OR 6.5 bed then I want to see and drive and I’ll make my final decision then IF that’s the way it ends up working out.

Your dealer is correct. Anyone saying they ordered one doesn’t know what they are talking about. Or their dealer lied to them to make them feel more confident.

My standard 4x4 Limited rides great. I would expect the TRD OR with supposedly softer shocks could ride better. Also on SR5 the TRD OR has 18" wheels so that extra sidewall helps too.

My thoughts to the OP is that if you never needed a special off road package before, you're just fine without it now. But the TRDs are a sweet package.

To reiterate, I did not "order" it directly from the dealer, I just submitted a build to them through toyota.com and they'll get as close as they can.

Exactly. I did a build, submitted it to the dealer, the dealer searched through the Gulf States Toyota builds, found the closest match and made a trade with the dealership to which it was orginally allocated.
