I doubt this is normal, but I didn't check until today.

All 20 lug nuts on my 2014 are swollen up, had to hammer a 22mil socket on them to change my front brakes recently.

So, let's go buy a new set of lug nuts from the dealer, np right?

Both my nearest local Toyota dealers barely have any lug nuts in stock, less than 10.
    But the REAL kicker is.......

They want $20 PER LUG NUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :crapstorm:
That's about $400 for a set of 20 lug nuts :annoyed:

    What the Actual F!

So far, I checked Sparks in SC, they are $11 something each.
Better, but still too high for a simple lug nut.

I finally broke down and bought the 2 I REALLY needed from local Advance Auto, at $7.31 each.

I was somehow missing 1 lug nut, and destroyed another trying to get a socket on it, so I was down 2 lugs on 1 front wheel

I prefer OEM parts whenever possible.

I understand inflation and whatnot lately but dam, really?
$20 per lug nut is crazy town.
I have seen no shortage of that crap steel, or the automated manufacturing used to produce them.

Side note, I added 1.25 Spydertrax front spacers to get my front right 275/65R20 E Falken Wildpeak A/T3W tire off my swaybar on full lock left turns.

Now BOTH front tires are rubbing the front plastic when turning, and it makes terrible noise turning in reverse. I already removed the front airflaps when the tires were put on.

They are also really close to the cab mount.
Not sure what's making that noise in reverse, hope it's the front plastic, but don't have extra hands to help yet.

I need to look into how to move the front plastic in a bit without it looking like crap.
I don't want to destroy my plastic and fender liners like on my 98 4Runner.

That or I need to burn down these brand-new tires to a lower diameter lol.
It's only $1400 worth of new tires with less than 1k miles

Sorry, had to warn people, and vent.

    Carry on :burnrubber:

Ouch. I would hit up discount/americas tire and see what they carry. Am certain a good replacement will not be $400

Yea it seems I will be forced to use aftermarket lug nuts.

As I said, I just prefer OEM parts whenever possible, for everything.

But mine are all shot so I have to get the rest, and soon because now I need to add the rear spacers, so it matches the front lol.

Called dealer to order a bed mat and they told me $158. I said what? They’re all online for $125, plus 12-20% off, $108, $103. He said oh yeah just order online (which I did from a different dealer). Point is they’re really going above and beyond to make money and you have to watch yourself.

Maybe I missed it somewhere but this has me curious. How do lug nuts swell up? I've never had this happen on a couple of Tundras and a 1989 extra cab.

I drive 1.5 hours across state lines to my parts connection.

Over the years I’ve built a good relationship with all three guys. Typically I get parts 10% over cost.

Yesterday buying my Amsoil quarts (11.00) each. They had some chat about rising parts prices and how it’s going to hit them. They make commission plus hourly.

Last month I bought black oem lugs from them, paid 55 for the entire set I believe.
Purchased a bed rug last year, think I paid 150ish. However I tried three weeks ago to order a TRD intake and he said his hands were tied as the director of parts was “cracking down”. This and the recent conversation about prices rising could have some weight behind it.

I don’t know if they would ship parts but I’ll gladly put anyone in contact with my connection.

I paid almost $300 for a tire pressure sensor replacement yesterday. The $60 fix at a tire shop didn’t work. Just spent the money at the stealership because I just wanted it fixed and wanted to avoid trying to figure out who lied to me (shop v. stealership). I found 4 sensors on CL for $100, I think I’ll buy those and keep them on hand for the next one to fail.

They don't but they do have chrome caps that loosen or expand over time. This is probably what OP was experiencing.

These toyota lug nuts are nuts with a thin crap chrome shell on them.

I think moisture gets inside them and over time they swell up for some dumb reason. Happens on some other brands lugs also, I just don't know who all still uses this dumbass design these days.

I literally had to 3lb sledge hammer the 22mil socket on each and every one of my perfectly normal looking lugs to get them off.

Two months ago I got twenty colored solid Rhino brand lugs. About $60.

EDIT: (I went to public schools). I too got Gorilla (not Rhino) brand one piece. I left an online "contact us" type of message for their tech dept. to make 1000% sure I was getting the right ones. He replied within two hours and after one round of e-mails I had my full confidence I was ordering the absolutely correct lugs (their online catalog is a big overwhelming). Great service at Gorilla.

I’ve had this happen on my Tundra and on my previous F150 as well years ago. Replaced the F-150 with Gorilla nuts for $100 total and they are 1 piece so it won’t happen again. Went Rhino at $75 for the whole set this last time, also 1 piece design so they won’t swell again.

I can't find the Gorilla lug nuts and locks anywhere in stock. Even talked to Gorilla Nut people and they said 30-60 days out....maybe.

Anyone have a lead online that has them in stock? I tried all the usuals: Amazon, eBay, summit, Jegs etc

Reach out to this guy and see if he is willing to ship. Black OEM lugs.
This is basically craigslist, but much better for local stuff. Nobody uses craigslist in Utah.

Be careful with lug nuts. Not all are created equal.

I bought some from Autozone a long time ago for my '08. My mechanic (at the time) told me they were the wrong size and was just a matter of time before they came off? I took them back and got my money back and have been extremely careful getting stuff from Autozone after that.

    Only OEM nuts for me.

I bought mine from Discount Tire. They also then rusted and replaced by much better quality ones, again from Discount Tire!

I can find the OEM lugs but I'm trying to find a one piece lug. As far as I know, all the OEM lugs are 2 piece that are prone to swelling...all the 2 piece lugs I've ever had eventually did. The Gorilla lugs I've used on other vehicles are one piece and their locks are less likely to strip out. Honestly, I wish someone made spline style lugs in black.

I've never had a problem with OEM lugs Toyota swelling. Im not sure what causes this. :notsure:. I've always run factory wheels on my Toyotas.

I worked for discount tire in high school and I remember the 2-piece lugs on jeeps and some fords would separate. 18mm sockets would fit nicely on the inner piece. The rub was when the caps came off and got stuck in the 19mm socket.
