kinda what I was thinking, 2K of chemicals alone? LOL, your way past what a 1/2 could do.

A 1/2 can do it in some cases with a payload package. A Tundra cannot. Neither can the OP’s Tacoma.

At least not from a legal standpoint. Get into an accident overloaded above GVWR and your insurance company is probably going to bail on you. Now you’re personally on the hook for that liability. That’s assuming no one gets hurt, if someone does get hurt and you were running overloaded you are probably in for a really really bad time.

assuming he's a decent size dude and has some other things to take with I was thinking he needs at LEAST 2500 lbs payload, I wasnt aware there was a 1/2 ton that high for a crew cab ,etc. maybe one of the fords on paper.

eitherway, needs a bigger truck for sure

The F150 HDPP could do it, that's a special order.

If a pickup truck is absolutely the only choice for this job a 3/4 or 1 ton is a better answer.

I’m a grown man I don’t need someone coming here telling me what I need as a work vehicle I have loaded this little Tacoma down with no issues. If I wanted a box van I would get a box van. I came here because I have an issue with a truck that was supposed to be here a month and a half ago. Not to argue with people that think they know my needs more than I do. Have a good day sir!

Stay safe man, hope you don’t get into an accident with your overloaded truck. A real grown man acts like a grown man and uses facts to make decisions, and does things responsibly. You’re not doing that, so you’re an irresponsible child.

If some random dude on the internet can think of something like this as an issue you can bet your ass your insurance carrier will, and so will the insurance carrier of any other affected parties. So will their tort lawyers. So will law enforcement and prosecutors if there are deaths or injuries.

I’m not trying to crap all over you even if I’m a bit harsh. At the end of the day you’re busting your butt running a small business. I want you to be successful and make lots of money. We need small businesses to thrive, and I want yours to do exactly that. I also don’t want to see you get hemmed up in a bad spot legally if something bad happens. We might not like ambulance chasing lawyers but they exist, anything you can do to make it harder for them to reach up your ass and pull out money in the event you have a bad day is probably a good idea.

I understand but I know my business and my needs im here to discuss a tundra that is a month and a half late. Not here to discuss what someone else feels is best for me and my business. I pass dot and cops all day long never had an issue. I also know my insurance policies. No hard feelings. On another note I’m not the only one out there putting a work horse to good use.

I ordered a truck basically the same as that gray one above but SR. They said they would know on the 20th if toyota picks it up.

I am use to Fords. They have become a complete pain in the ass to buy so Toyota it is.

Will put an aluminum cap on it and give it to someone at work. Will probably be running around 800-900lbs with tools and driver. Pretty sure I will get some good HD shocks and aftermarket springs for it. May even throw some 18s and 116 rated tires the HDPP F150 runs.

Anything we haul over 1000-1500lbs we can tow a trailer for.

No its not. I have ran several and you really become limited at around 2000 lbs cargo. A 3/4 ton is getting tapped out at 3000-3500. DRW vary.

If you don’t have that specific need to haul over 2000 but no more than 3000 the 1/2 ton works fine.

10.5mpg in a 6.2L gas Ford f250 or 18.4mpg in a 2.7 f150; plus a more comfortable ride. Same exact configuration of truck, that is my mpg.

A cube van is ok but the only fuel efficient one is the transit and they cant tow much because they are unibody. Also he is hauling chemicals.

My opinion; find a 20-21 (or even an older, used Tundra - or possibly even a different brand truck) and wait on the new one until they get all the bugs worked out. Especially since you make your living with it.

You've been waiting 2+ months for the truck, I think I've read where some have been waiting nearly that long for parts to repair their new truck. If you drop the Taco and only have this truck, is that gamble on the new one not having an issue worth it? IF it happens you draw the unlucky one, what are the odds the dealer would provide a truck loaner while yours is waiting weeks/months for parts?

The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced that if I were in your shoes I'd look for a good used truck that was built before covid. Then wait until this clears up and manufacturing/production gets back to normal.

In the summer I often see one pool guy in a Taco loaded up - his route apparently shares part of my commute route. Maybe it's you? Although, I don't think there are many tourists out here. Guessing you're closer to the water.

If you can get an order in at MSRP I would go that route. Used trucks are over priced. This inflation may not stop. We are in a recession that we are being “propped” to stay out of and .gov wants to funnel more funds into social spending as well.

Agree with keeping the Taco a few months if possible. First year models are always a pain.

works fine.If I were the OP I would wait for the 22

I am one of the so called dumb dumbs that you refer to ( I didn't pay over MSRP) and I love my truck just as the majority that own one do. I'd rather be one of the dumb dumbs then be one of the less fortunate people that can only read about it on the internet and try to talk others out of owning a great truck.

For the OP, speak to the people that actually own the product, avoid the comments of those that don't.

Hino 155 , no thanks, another can of worms that one doesn't need to open. In Canada you need CVOR for that truck, categorized like the big carriers, insurance is 5 x of a pick up truck, licensing same.

I had thought buying a 2022 as work truck to replace my 2012 TRD but my gut feeling told me to go for a 2.5 gen Tundra. I see now that it was a good decision. Can't imagine having to switch trucks mid season when I'm working 14 hr days, the truck full of tools and gear. The Tundra is great and versatile. Has its limits but I rather pull a trailer than overloading it.

Just did now for the hell of it. They aren’t cheap by any means and the efficient ones are unibody and can’t tow much.

A good utility trailer is 3000lbs empty and almost any halfton can tow 8,000. Works fine.

Anyone able to build and price the GM van?

I’m glad you stuck with it and waited it out.

Each Small Bussiness is unique some call for just the right size truck, especially if you deal with chemicals and don’t want to be asphyxiated by the end of the day driving around in a van. Only you know exactly what your Bussiness needs are, where you drive, how many times a day you have to back up or u turn. So I will not try and help you , just congratulate you on your new truck.
    cheers
