Nothing they can do in the near term. In the long term Ford, GM, and other manufacturers can skull fuck dealers that won’t play ball by denying them inventory. Same thing they will do if customer satisfaction surveys consistently come in sub par. That is usually the first step for a dealer that’s not living up to expectations. Hit them in their earning potential and give that allotment to their nearest competing store.

Sadly the customers getting screwed right now see no relief, but the wrath of the manufacturers can be quite real. I’ve seen dealers who were super shitty be given the choice of strait up losing their franchise, selling it, or taking on a new managing partner.

Has anyone done any real detective work to narrow down an approximate count on major turbo/waste gate issues? I know it seems like a lot but with the internet being a echo chamber 1 instance can seem like 20.

I'm opening a business in June and another in either Dec or January that will require both require a truck and approximately 25-30k miles per year for business use. I could use my 16 tundra if worse comes to worse until the bugs are worked out but 13 mpg will be rough. I realize the 22s aren't getting much better at the moment but going from 13 to 18 mpg will save over 600 gallons of gas.
Also being able to sell my current truck at grossly inflated values while writing off a portion of a new truck has me wanting to go for a 22

I would stay away for a while especially for business use, if a turbo goes down and your without trucks for a month or more, business could suffer.

Great looking rig! I'm was thinking Limited/Platinum, but I'm leaning more to the 1794 these days. What's your maroney sheet look like? I like the options you have.

Yeah, that list of specific Turbo failures are really stacking up!! I am pretty those without the truck posting outnumber guys that actually have the issue.

The guy is as likely, if not more in some cases, to have his truck out of commission for 30 days or more buying another brand.

    Missed these comments.

2021 F150 XLT with XTR package, 3.5L EcoBoost, SuperCrew, short box 4x4.

It's actually an EcoBoost, my mistake on that. The Ford I drive for work does not have the tow mirrors, neither did the Tundra. I haven't tried the Tundra tow mirrors. The dip in the door is a personal preference, which I addressed. I don't like it because it doesn't fit me and my driving style. For the record, The Woman doesn't like it either. I really don't give a shit how well revered or complimented something is by others if it doesn't suit my needs. The storage has been vastly improved over the previous gen Tundra, it's night and day. Ford doesn't have the compartment under the rear seat, which I personally like. The reason I'm not buying a hybrid is largely in part due to the lost storage.

Call it what you will. They're my personal preferences, not attacks. I compared to the Ford because I drive the 2021 F150 daily for work and it's the most recent comparison I have direct, daily experience with. Before my '05 Tundra I also owned a 2013 F150 with the 5.0L V8 bought one year old, I've also owned a 2011 GMC Sierra bought brand new and my wife had a 2009 RAM 1500 for awhile. My coworker has a new '21 RAM and my best friend has a new '21 GM, both trucks which I've gotten good wheel time on as well.

Defend the F150 all you want, but you admitted yourself you haven't even driven the new Tundra. I would say between the two of us I have a better idea of how the Tundra compares to the other brands especially for my personal needs. I chose the Tundra despite qualifying for X-Plan pricing with Ford, The Woman's uncle being a sales manager at a RAM dealer and having a solid relationship with the local GM dealer.

I have my reasons for not buying a Sierra, RAM or F150.

Your right! There is a thread on here compiling a list and it’s huge!! (4 so far, lol). I’m sure there are some more, but there have been many more issues with every other Toyota Tundra year (check the recalls and also the cam tower mess) and despite that, Toyota is still known for reliability. In a few months we will better know the scope, but there are many very happy 2022 owners out there. Like all the crap in the past, any problems will be fixed. If mine fails tomorrow, I’ll get a loaner and not be a crybaby about it. And I’ll still be glad I got this Truck.

I got to look at and drive a 2022 Limited today. It feels lighter when driving it and it soaks up the bumpy SoCal roads nicely. I was expecting it to be a little quicker but it was still at least as fast as my 2019 Limited. It's got some great technology upgrades like the 360-camera view, including a front camera, and folding mirrors, and many other upgrades. The infotainment center screen is huge but I didn't get to play with it much. The upgraded sound system is much better than the one that came with my 2019. In looking at the suspension components up front they seemed to be much beefier than the previous generation.

I will definitely consider it when I trade in my Tundra this year, but I really thought the fuel economy would be better than it is, or rather, claims to be. I'll also look at the GMC and Ram with their ecodiesels before I decide.

I’m always surprised people feel the 2nd gen is as quick as the 3rd gen. I think the 2nd gen is only quicker for a split second right off the line and that’s just that loose torque converter pushing hard right before stall rpm.

Anyway, the domestic halfton diesels are great, especially around town if you live in an urban area and do a lot of city driving. Not a lot of highway passing power but you really can’t argue with the fuel economy.

Although I did not spend a lot of time with it, I didn't see any fit and finish/quality issues. The 2022 Tundra has finally caught up with some of the other brands when it comes to features available. It has retractable step bumpers in the back on each corner. There is now under seat storage in the back. It finally comes with AC plug receptacle in the bed like the Tacoma has had for years. The mirrors aim down when you back up. The moonroof is longer and looks great. It has vented seats which is great on hot days. I'm still trying to get used to the front grill but it could grow on me just like when Dodge Ram did a major cosmetic change to their front end in the late 90s.

I should clarify that when I said it was not as quick as I was expecting, it is still fast. It's deceptively fast. I floored it on the freeway and before I knew it I was going 95. I would definitely know I'm going 95 mph in my current Tundra. It had a nice exhaust note although it was a little subdued, probably because it's new.

The power is not an instant rush on the 2022 like on my 2019, but the 2022 just starts pulling harder and harder as the RPMs climb. I think the coil springs in the back are an improvement over the leaf springs. The upper control arms in the front are what I was referring to when I said it looked beefier. The 2nd gen has stamped steel UCAs but the 2022 looked like solid steel, or maybe aluminum, it couldn't tell just by quickly looking but they do "look" stronger.

I'd say it's actually the opposite for the diesels - they're good if you do a lot (and I mean a lot, 100 miles in a day at least once a week) of highway driving. They have enough power to use for passing, and with city driving you don't get the exhaust system hot enough to properly get cleaned out. I currently have a 3.0 PS F150 that spends most of it's time on site and only a 10 minute highway drive back and forth to camp - the thing is almost constantly in regen mode.

Is a 40 mile commute enough? Maybe if I keep my current job and we go back to working at work, I'll get myself a one ton Duramax. :D

You'd have to check the DMax forums to see if that would be enough to get the system to proper heating. If you do a longer trip twice a month I think you'd be giving the emissions crap the best chance to stay clear. The people with diesels that only do a 10-15 minute commute in the city are asking for trouble.

I'm thinking I'd most likely stick with gas anyway. Even a 3500 gasser should be overkill for anything I want to tow.

The newer offerings are a hell of an upgrade over the ones from 10 years ago. At that point they were all about durability and were about as low on power as they could be to still be able to haul their rated loads on the flats. But now starting with the 6.4 Hemi they've got lots of power - the 7.3 Ford and 6.6 GM gas extended on how powerful the gas offerings are. For constant towing the diesels still rule, but for 3 or 4 trips a year with a bigger trailer the gassers are very competent, and are much easier to have as daily drivers.

Just hit 900 Miles. Had a chance to look it over (Warm Day) crawling around it and no issues. Fit and Finish is solid. No rattles. Initially had some driver side wind noise and now gone? Will continue to watch-maybe the running boards changed airflow? Installed TRD Running boards-30 minutes all hardware (Bolts) on Tundra. Installed TRD Skid plate. 30 minutes-This plate very easy to install comparing to 17 4Runner TRD Pro. It's much longer and you hang it by the front bolts and pivot back into place. Really simple :).

Most positive item to share is we took it on 75-mile ride local back roads. 35-50MPH with some stop and go, rolling terrain. 19.3 MPG in Eco Mode

So he uses the recovery point on the rear to get pulled out and it caused damage. How does that happen. Hope the frame ain’t bent.
