Chalk bag 32oz cupholder mod

I can't take credit for the idea, but I will take credit for my particular execution as well as sharing it on this site.

Here's everything I used to modify the bag.






Cut one end of the sewn loop and burn the edges to prevent fraying.





Punch a hole in the center of the strap, right below the bend. If you don't have one of these tools, a drill should work fine too. Or heat up a screwdriver over the stove and melt a hole through.






Roll up the excess and zip tie it. This keeps the strap from slipping out from in between the two trim pieces.




For comparison's sake, here is the gap in the trim before.






Pry up on the two corners up near the center console. The whole thing is held in place with pressure clips. I used a trim removal tool to get it started. A flathead screwdriver wrapped in electrical tape (so you don't scratch the surface) will work too. Notice my shift knob is removed, you don't need to do that. Just popping it up gave me the room necessary.





The gap is nonexistent because we removed the double layer of nylon.




As an added bonus, you can roll up the bag and stow it away if you really want to.

 

Is it screwed in underneath or does it just use the rolled part to hold it in place behind the plastic trim?

 

Lol that is legit what the G Wagon had for a cup holder

 

The rolled up part is what keeps it from slipping out between the trim pieces. There is no modification to the truck whatsoever.

 

It looks like an adorable little basketball hoop.

 

Lol I just remembered seeing a Doug Demuro youtube review of the G Wagon and thats what it had for cup holders lol, a 100k vehicle with little basketball hoop cup holders. The chalk bag definitely has a manlier look haha

Still reading through the pages. On page 6 of 20 so far, but I was convinced well before that this was a must do mod. Bag should arrive on Wednesday and will get installed next weekend. I'll be sure to share pictures after. My wife already has the hole punch tool from using it on her purses...

Great mod. I was hooking my bottle to the headrest hooks I installed some time back. But I like it.

 

No shit, right? Now I'm looking at chalk bags...and my water bottle actually fits in the cupholders (but my kids' ones don't).

How does that go at a check stop? I guess being legal no big deal or does it still make them edgy? Asking as an envious canuck;/

 

Laws for a traffic stop vary by state. Home is in Colorado and we have no duty to inform. Travel to Nebraska frequently where last I checked you do in fact have to let the officer know you are legally carrying a concealed handgun. I’ve only had one interaction with law enforcement while carrying and he was completely uninterested.

 

Just arrived today after weather delays. Loving the Ranger green color and I can't wait to install it.
