I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
The purpose of this threat is to track Gen 3 2022+ model year Tundra’s that have turbocharger failures.

Please keep posts brief and factual with the following format:

    1.) Build date.
    2.) In service date.
3.) Mileage and date of failure.
4.) Description of problem and resolution.

Your build date should appear on the door frame sticker with your VIN number. To ensure your privacy I strongly suggest not posting a photo of this sticker, or listing your entire VIN #.

To keep this thread organized please consider editing your original post when you have a resolution or update to post.

Hopefully this can help us all keep track of this known issue.

Adding to that list of 4 basics ; perhaps one should be Trim: SR/SR5/Limited/etc and powertrain 4x2; 4x4
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

updated: dealer reset lights and told me “not to floor it” ugh. I was told Toyota is building a new part for a fix and sees no value in replacing a faulty part (current part) with another faulty part (new and shiny). I see that logic, but dang.

Why or how the hell did a build date of 1/22/22 have this issue? I have to wonder if Toyota just basically said 'f*ck it build 'em anyway' and used the defective parts. This waste-gate issue was discovered weeks before that, was it not? How could this have happened??

Has me really rethinking my upcoming build date, this company which I've always revered as the best out there is a complete farce right now.

I theorize Toyota calculated that failures wouldn’t be noticed by the buying public, and elected to build trucks anyway. Why not? Usually only the manufacturer is going to compile data on the failure, and they’re sure as hell not going make that information public.

Hence my reason for starting this thread. We can compile data, and put it out there.

What would be nice to know is what is the most milage of the turbo (waste gate) failure. What I'm getting at is if your over a certain milage you should be improving your odds that your in the clear?

I just called and talked to my salesman to check to see if my build is on time, so far so good. T- minus four days. 2/22.

We discussed the wastegate issue, the Lewiston dealership hasn't had an issue with any of the trucks they sold, although that number is probably small. He informed me that Toyota had discussed the issue with dealers, the 'official' total of affected trucks is 1% of past sales. He also stated that there are no February dates affected with wastegate anomaly.

It's anecdotal and the words of a salesman, so take it for what's it's worth, but he's been a 100% square dude to deal with. He has a Limited model being built, he shared that he's as frustrated as the rest all of us with waiting.

10% failure is complete BS. This is the result of social media blowing something completely out of proportion. So far, there are 5 documented on the spreadsheet.

But if 1% is true then that number will climb as miles get put on trucks. It takes some guys months to put a 1000 miles on a truck. So where does that number end? Higher then 1%

Yes, the percentage failure will climb as miles are put on the trucks, however, your speculation that the percentage will end up higher than 1% is pure conjecture on your part. It's too early for sales figures for any 2022's, but one UNOFFICIAL number I found was 4952 Tundras so far in 2022. I don't know if that's model year, fiscal year, year to date, or what. If even half of those are 2022's, then 5 documented failures doesn't even come close to 1%. You can keep being negative, but my 2022 is doing great so far.

Oh cool a video from the same moron who can’t accurately describe turbocharger operation or what a wastegate does.

240 miles on my tundra and I have gotten the parking brake support malfunction, check engine reduced power, and advanced ultrasonic detecting and ranging system malfunction. Have appointment with dealer in a couple days.

    **Update**

    Confirmed turbo failure-

    Build date: 1/12/2022
    In service date: 1/29/22
    Turbo failure at 240 miles
No estimate yet on repairs or time frame

    **update #2**

Dealer kept the truck for a week. Cleared the codes and then drove it for 60ish miles and could not replicate the turbo failure so it was returned to me.
1 week later after putting another 150 miles on the vehicle it went into failure again. Returned to dealer and the turbo was replaced in less than a week.

Picked up my new Tundra after much resistance because of the wastegate issue. I wanted it enough to believe the engineer on you tube who stated it's likely 1/10 of 1% of the trucks. My color was coming in (hard to get) so I jumped on it assuming these issues were all but gone. WELLLL I got 84 miles before I got the light. They have no idea how long the wait for parts will be but the "hope" it will be a few days. This of course is after paying 6,000 over MSRP. Now I have the lowest trim package 4runner for who knows how long? Looks like around 30 days from what I'm seeing.

Well add me to the list, Platinum built at the end of Nov 2021 gave the check engine light and a parking system malfunction yesterday at ~250 miles. Took to dealer today and they said the wastegate on the bank 1 turbo failure. Parts on order, no ETA, getting setup with a loaner later today.

If you have a chance can you put your info into the standard format for reporting on this? Just for ease of compiling data.

Sorry this happened to your new truck.
