Passenger Window not working

Update: Insmonia sucks. I was a dumbass . I hit the window lock switch. Please disregard. Thank you for your help.

The passenger side window (2000 Tundra Limited) recently stopped working (stuck open, of course). Driver’s side and locks are all working, so it doesn’t seem like the fuse.

Any thoughts?

 

I had a similar issues last month on the V6. It would roll up or down sometimes. Turned out to be a bad passengers window switch.

If one of the two passengers side switches is bad, neither will work.

Luckily I had one on hand from @lsaami's part out truck.

 

Did you accidentally push the little passenger window lock button?

Best alternate questions I can ask is this:

Do you hear anything when you flick the switch? Any sounds at all, either clicks, whirring like a motor, anything?

If YES is the answer, have you popped off the door panel yet to see if something is bound up? I recall reading someone on here saying something was interfering with the action, or something went off track.

If NO is the answer, any chance you can hit a junkyard to grab a replacement control, just to test the switch isn't bad?

The fact only one isn't working would suggest to me either the motor is burnt up, or more likely, the switch stopped working. I'd hit the switch with contact cleaner and act on it - can't hurt.

 

Zero noise of any kind from the switch or motor. Not sure if it makes a difference, but I did try both switches for the passenger side window.

Compare the "feel" of the switch on the passengers side to the feel of the driver side switch. If they don't feel the same, or the passengers side switch feels "loose" when you rock it up/down then it the passengers side.

I have still have another driver's side master switch laying around here somewhere, but I haven't got a clue where it's at.

 

And the window lock button definitely isn't on? (I mean, I guess if you can roll the passenger window(s) up/down using their controls it's not)

Any chance you have a junkyard nearby with a switch you can temporarily plug in and test? The plate to cover style doesn't matter much, as long as it's from another AC truck, the cover plate just swaps out. You can get replacement aftermarket switches all day for like $40 or something on fleaBay and scAmazon IIRC. Or maybe a used switch for even cheaper on fleaBay, I dunno.

 

Oh and before you do that, it may be possible to hot-feed the motor 12v and see if it engages, at least get it to roll up.

Maybe if you snap a pic of the feed connector for the door switch, we may be able to figure out which wires you'd need to jumper to 12v to get the motor to turn on.

Looks like I'm not the only one that's asleep at the wheel, er, not sleeping lately.

 

I too have a bad passenger side switch, but not lucky enough to have one on hand. The wiring harness connector is also bad...any suggestions on where to get both of these? There's no salvage yards anywhere near me. :-(

It's actually the pinout (not the switch itself) and/or connector to the wiring harness (mud light also does not have power), so I probably need both. It looks like liquid was spilled down into the switches and corroded the pinouts and connector. I'm guessing someone left a window open in the rain or something.

 

IIRC, at least with the driver's side door, the door harness is almost like a pigtail, where it branches from a plug in the kickpanel under the dash before going through its rubber sleeve to & thru the door.

If it were me, I'd pop off the passenger kickpanel to confirm that. If it's the case, I'd hunt for that length of harness, used, either on eBay, from one of the guys parting out already on here, or otherwise.

I wish we had a sticky thread of dudes who have parts trucks on here. But, really, if I go to my local Craigslist or OfferUp and hunt for "<year> Tundra Parts" I find at least half a dozen parts trucks from individuals, and about 20 from salvage yards posted in the last 2-4 weeks. You may find the same.

It may be worthwhile to stick with a truck having the same year, and potentially same cab config.

The window lock was 100% engaged. My brain didn’t even consider that as an option. Sleep, why hast thou abandoned me?

 

Just in case someone else is searching for a quick fix to get the window up while you are trying to acquire a replacement switch or motor, here's an easy way to bypass the problem. In my situation it was late at night and the forecast called for rain overnight into the next day. I'm in an apartment complex with no covered parking, so I had to get this thing rolled up one way or the other. I wasn't sure if it was the switch on driver's side or passenger's side that was faulty. So I jammed two stripped ends of a rather small gauge wire into the door puddle/courtesy light connector and the other end into the motor connector. Just had to reverse polarity as it tried to roll down the first way I connected it. I went easy on it a little bit at a time (as I kind of assumed that it would draw too much current and pop the fuse for the dome/courtesy lights), and helped the window up by hand while the motor did its thing. Got it closed and didn't worry about putting everything back together until the next day. I ended up just cleaning the contacts on the switch and it still works to this day. -2002 Tundra SR5 2x4 access cab
