I suspect my fuel gauge is not reading correctly. Examples are being at 65 miles left on the display but the gauge at the 1/4 mark. The display at near full but the gauge at 364 miles left.

Any fixes for this, advice? Truck is 2016 4X4 V8.

Mine pretty much reads the same way and i have a brand new 21 and have the 26 gallon tank like you. You are fine. Toyotas fuel gauge engineering is strange on this truck.

So many people seem to be stymied by their fuel tank readings. They're all like that. When you start driving a vehicle that's new to you, all you can do is learn to interpret what its particular gauge and fuel level indicators are telling you, i.e. how much is left in the tank when the low fuel warning sounds, how much is left at 1/4 tank, etc. Only time and experience with your truck will teach you what your fuel status really is. Without intertretation, "Miles to Empty" means nothing. The actual numbers might be fairly close, but usually are nowhere near accurate. Depends on how you drive, road conditions, terrain, etc. I never even look at or pay any attention whatsoever to the "Miles to Empty" display. Nothing new here to Toyota or any other manufacturer. And they all seem to cover their ass by showing you about to run out of fuel when you actually have 75-100 miles to go.

I have many years with my truck and usually by the the time it’s at 65 miles left it’s near empty on the gauge and the warning light will turn on shortly. This last time it was at the 1/4 mark on the gauge when at mid 60’s so this definitely not normal to me.

yeah, and its also not normal to have a 6 gallon reserve, which you have lol. You will get used to it.

If it is broke, the only fix might be to tear it apart and replace the sensor. Would you want to spend the time and money on that?

Alright then. I’ll continue to monitor and hope for no costly repair in my future.

In any case, don't worry. Nothing bad will come of any of it. You won't hurt the truck.

I am still within a year on my truck and have less than 4k miles... but on this last tank of gas I noticed that the full fill miles to empty was lower (like 375 vs low 400s) and at just under 1/2 tank it said 165 or so miles to empty. The difference? The last two tanks several days per week I have been letting it warm up for 10 minutes and then driving my kid to school. .9 miles round trip and 3.9 mpg. So, I am chalking up the miles to empty being reduced as a calculation of my current driving habits.
