Vacuum disconnected on fuel pressure regulator

Looking for some general wisdom here... I was checking torque on the valve cover bolts this weekend (to factory torque spec of 53 in/lbs...some were REALLY loose, so hope it stops my sudden oil leak!), and noticed a disconnected vacuum hose. The hose was from the resonator box to the fuel pressure regulator. I suppose it's possible I pulled it loose while tightening the valve cover bolts, but it wasn't that easy to push back on so I think I would have known if I pulled it off.

Anyway, I'm assuming it's been that way since I purchased the truck last July. If it has been, what is the impact? Could it have damaged anything, or would it affect fuel mileage, or ??? MPG has been terrible (10.3-10.7), and I know these trucks aren't known for great MPG, but could that have been a cause for poor fuel consumption? Anything else I should check or look out for if it's been disconnected for an extended period of time?

 

Minimal change. It's a small unmetered air leak into the intake but the ECU would be able to compensate for it (ltft).

It also means the fuel rail pressure wouldn't change with throttle position, which would also have a minor effect on fueling. It'd just be set to ambient air pressure (which is also what typically happens at WOT, unless turbo or s/c) and not drop down with vacuum when at part throttle or idle. Again, not a big deal.

 

hmm....I need to check this. I was messing with fuel lines a couple months ago (fuel pump went out) and I've noticed that my MPG has dropped form about 13 to about 11....wonder if I disconnected this and never put it back as I haven't found any leaks or anything.

 

Well.......this is embarrassing....I went looking on my truck to see if my poor MPG lately is related to this...didn't find anything disconnected....but while I was at it I decided to check my air filter......I wonder if this could have effected my MPG a little?

Funny, it's two east coast guys who know about it, where our humidity makes it virtually impossible to pop up, if I remember right. I read a story about it in Reader's Digest when I was a much younger man, scared the living hell out of me.

Don't get me wrong, there are similar nasty things we can get from droppings like, maybe if you're clearing pigeon or dove poop from a roost spot. But damn that hanta nonsense sounds brutal. I remember about a decade ago something about campsites or cabins at Yosemite having an outbreak and some people dying.
