Hello all, just signed up and was hoping you guys could help me out.

Company giving an allowance of $1k/mo for a truck. I want a Tundra. It has to have 4WD, and I'd strongly prefer crew cab with leather or fake leather seats.

Likely driving anywhere from 50k to 100k miles per year (95% highway). Very little real use such as pulling trailers etc.

There seem to be some real solid used options in the $40k range. New (2022 Limited package) shows MSRP ~$53.5k.

I'm trying to figure out if I should buy new, buy used, etc. If used, is there a certain mileage range or certain options that are best? My thought on buying new was that I could take care of it from day 1, and even as the mileage racks up, just replace whatever needs replacing. I'd eventually get to where I'm still receiving the allowance, but the truck is paid off...it wouldn't be a big deal to me to replace engine or trans at that point, for example. However, maybe this same logic would be better applied to something used?

I'd love some insight here. Sorry if my post is rambling. Thanks in advance.

Heck with 1k a month allowance and as many miles you'll do I'd be going new. Especially with current gas prices.

Test that new tundra/sequoia engine out for the rest of us. Haha. Good luck!

    Welcome!
Man, with that kind of milage you'll be putting on I imagine you'll be ready for a new truck before one is paid off. You would get killed on the trade in value too.
I would look into long term rentals if I were you. I think Enterprise has a rental program for Hotshot drivers.

If I did buy new, I would have to commit to being willing to replace engine, trans, etc. Theoretically, though, the deal would get a lot sweeter after I pay it off, even considering the above.

Yeah, that would pay better over time.
I would consider the down time as repairs stack up. I belive the Enterprise rental has oil changes and tires as part of the deal.

The 2019-2021 platforms are tried and true. They will last way past the milage you state with regular maintenance. The big problem is the cost of fuel. Keep it stock and don't drive it like you stole it.

The vast majority of fuel would be paid for by employer

Is there a consensus that 2021 would be preferable to 2022 (assuming we are comparing to low/no mileage 2021)?

    I don't trust turbo V6 either...would rather have V8, especially since I don't pay for gas.
