New Member, Will Take Delivery in Two Weeks...Questions Regarding the Side Mirrors...Big Blind Spot

So I ordered a new tundra through a friend at a dealership a bit ago, he got me a SR5 with TRd sport package for 1k over MSRP, it literally shows up in 2 weeks.

I was not able to test drive one for a long time, and I finally got to test drive one today, so I am short 5'4, and I noticed the side mirrors are the HUGEST blind spot ever when taking a right turn, almost to the point of not wanting to buy the truck if there isnt a way for me to work around this.

I did not however raise the seat height (was not my truck so i didnt just start adjusting).

I heard there were adapters you can buy?

If I am supposed to post somewhere else, please let me know, or if a Mod can move it that would be great

Edit, I think I need to clarify...

The mirror itself is physically blocking my vision of cars coming from the left when I am taking a right turn.
adding a small mirror literally does nothing, adjusting the angle of the mirror does nothing

Know that my 2017 has a MASSIVE blind spot at the right mirror and A arm intersection. I've had to alter my approach to "looking right.'

I am 5'3.. with a gen 2 with tow mirrors, I usually look ahead at the corners and rock back and forth to see around the mirrors.. I personally don't have a need for seat jackers, but to each their own.

 

tow mirrors would help a little wouldnt they?

 

lost me there... I lose everything behind my tow mirrors... people, cars, trucks and sometimes 18 wheelers when I don't pay attention..

 

Adjust your mirrors properly, there shouldn't be a blindspot.

I'm guessing you have your mirrors pointed too far inward, most people do.

 

Mirrors should have blind spot monitoring??

 

Seat jackers will probably not help, they are only designed to change the angle of your seat to give you a more comfortable seating position.

with it being so new I doubt any aftermarket blind spot options with an oem look will currently be available

I would look into something like these.

No! the OEM tow mirrors have a huge blind spot on the right. I seen a couple treads about it and have first hand knowledge. Plus they cost over 400 dollars you won’t be happy with them if you’re already having issues with the factory mirrors

I dont think you are referring to the correct mirrors..

The ones I have on the SIDE of the car, literally block my view for any cars coming from the left

There is no adjusting it

There have been a couple of threads about this over the years.
This problem is certainly not exclusive to the 2022s.
Not sure what the results were...

 

is this common on all tundras? Maybe it's because it's my first 'full size' truck ive driven
If so I just have to change my habits and prop myself up each time i turn right to look for on coming traffic

 

You'll adapt to it.
Just be more aware when approaching intersections and proceeding from red lights and stop signs.

I've been driving with these mirrors for 35 years so I'm used to looking around side mirrors.
We're trained to look left, right, then left when proceeding thru an intersection.
That has saved me more times than I can remember in my personal vehicle over the years..

 

My Chevy I drive for work has tow mirrors that create horrible blind spots. As do the A pillars. Move your seat to best mitigate it and then be careful.
