Replaced the shift knob and stitched on the Loncky leather steering wheel cover, not the easiest thing in the world to do, but, I’m very happy with it. Smells great!

So I’ve been playing around with this, because I too feel like the map lights are too bright. I have been playing around with putting a resistor in line on one side of the lead that plugs into the map light socket. The largest resistor I was able to successfully use was 51ohms. It dimmed the lights slightly and took the “edge” off. All resistors I tried that were higher than 51ohms, dropped the current enough that there wasn’t enough power to switch between the red and white lights.

It’s really hard to take representative photos, but the light on the right is the MESO original, while the light on the left is the one with the 51ohm resistor in line.

Now, I am no electrical engineer… I did a little reading about how to dim LEDs, and resistors seems to be the preferred method, but eventually a high enough resistor, will prevent the LED from having enough current to turn on.

Thanks for posting! What are your thoughts on disabling some of the individual diodes to cut down the output?

I considered it, I just wasn’t confident that I would be able to “undo” it if I wanted to go back the other way.

Yeah I doubt you could. lol. I’m thinking about putting drops of RTV or something similar (glue?) in the individual LED wells or maybe just punching them with an awl. Sounds crazy but these things are just too damn bright and MESO won’t respond to my emails.

Yesterday I went and had my truck inspected for the steering recall and it passed. Now it is my truck again with no problems. Have the Sport Headlights and harness and will get them installed when weather warms up again.

Sucks you have to do all this to make it usable. Maybe try black electrical tape over some of the LEDs to give you an idea of what it will look like if some were gone? Or maybe brush on some plastidip? At least then you could remove it if you didn’t like it.

Thanks! I was really afraid I wouldn’t like the color. Bronze seemed better suited for black, MGM, silver, etc. Really happy I took the chance. Yes the chrome has to go desperately!

I put vinyl over the outer rows leaving only the inside row of white and red exposed. Just about right. Wish I had gray vinyl but black will do for now (probably forever since I’ve already stopped letting it bother me).

Kevin, the sewing part is the easy part. If I was to do this again there’s a few changes I’d make. I removed the steering and found it difficult to hold while stitching, keeping tension on the thread and trying to manipulate the leather, on the plus side it was -10* outside and I could watch a movie and drink a beer. I think next time I would start at the corners of the spokes at 9 and 3 o’clock. This is where the leather needs the most attention to sit right. I didn’t keep the tension in the stitching quite tight enough on the long section on the top half. I don’t have any gaps, but, it could look a little neater. Lastly, there’s a few areas that would benefit from the correct contact glue, where the spokes meet the top of the air bag-steering column (See pic), wipe these and any area that you’ll place the tape with 70% rubbing alcohol first. I was really impressed with the quality of the leather, not a blemish to be seen and it smells wonderful! Really glad I did this mod. 72C20A77-894E-4474-A337-F9BA997B9C11.jpg
