Your assumption is correct. Dealer invoices are and have been fake since the mid 90s. They make about double the markup they show. It comes in the form of the kickback bonuses they get but nobody likes talking about that, especially Toyota dealers.

 

Same I actually enjoy the game car dealerships play, I have walked away from many deals, and learned a lot over the years (my brother sold cars for a while)
But in todays market I’m happy to take 30% extra on my trade and pay MSRP.

I would love to tell my dealer 52k all in out the door for my truck but never gunna happen in these crazy times

 

Have a request in to my local dealer to look for a LTD Crewmax short bed with just the panoramic moonroof option checked. In the first contact they came at me with a 68K out the door price including markup and port installed options bundles. I told them what I wanted and said I want to be below 60K. Came up on the configurator in the low 57s so I will wait and let them look for it. Just called and said they see nothing that looks like what I'm interested in for at least 2 months out. Everything coming out is fully loaded and bundled.

I told them I don't take it personal and we can keep communicating through the year to see how the market changes but keep in mind I've bought 2 vehicles off them and serviced one there for a decade. They have 4 listed online at their one location but they are all in transit with some already purchased. Had a couple at their other location a month ago that I'm sure are gone. No dealer trades happening.

After re-considering other brands I have a Ford dealer who claims not to charge ADM pricing a 5.0 Lariat SCREW for me. If they are telling the truth and are able to come in at just below 60K that is probably my first alternative.

 

What a deal....NOT!

 

Anyone else hear that 1794s and Platinums are now being held on an additional 90 day hold? I've seen this a couple of times today from people that have those ordered, and that are pending qc hold

 

Toyota IMO should be able to get something similar to the Powerboost done with the Tundra and Sequoia hybrid. 400W is bush league, that's 2005 Tacoma technology.

Well we are not alone with the tow hooks. Tried to help my elderly neighbor by pulling him up our hill in his 2wd f150. No tow hooks and the air dam is so low, there is nothing to hook to. Granted his was a 2wd, but all trucks should have tow hooks. Heck my wife's lexus nx has a screw in tow hook.

I was at dealer today and they told me new tundra orders wait time is 8-10 months. Production is definitely not where it should be, parts, quality issues, labor shortage Ect are definitely impacting everything.

 

That's insane. I wonder if the hybrid and TRD pro launch will be botched.

 

Yep, I think the long wait has more to do with the number of orders this dealer has, they are the only dealership out of like 8 within 25 miles that are NOT doing Market Adjustment, word is out so they have a line of buyers waiting on allocation.

It’s not just Toyota. Try to buy any new vehicle now. All the new car lots are near empty. Especially tough time for a new model.

 

I mean i get it but Toyota sells less, they cut global production to allocate for this launch, and honestly what they’ve launched has some pretty spotty quality outside the norm

 

This just reminds me of when RAM rushed the 5th generation 1500 into production in early 2019. It was a bundle of mechanical and electrical problems on 4 wheels.

Why are people surprised trucks have gotten so much more expensive? Removing all other factors, raw materials have increased by a ridiculous amount in the last few years.
If anything, vehicles have increased by a lower percentage than the steel, plastic, etc. that go into them. That doesn’t even include the increase in costs across the board for pretty much every company. I wouldn’t be surprised if they are actually making a lower profit margin to keep the costs to the consumer from increasing more than they have.

 

On top of this, having priced out what the expected MSRP is going to be for the new 2022 refresh of the GMCs/Chevy .. HOLY CRAP. A similar spec'd out truck in either GMC or Chevy is well above the price of the Toyota. I'm going to wait it out here for my truck to be built (2/15 tentative!).

 

Hope he/she's not paying sticker because someone paying sticker on a Kia would create quite a rift in the space/time continuum.

 

Outside the GTR one of my most fun cars was the 2020 Optima. I paid $23k for it in early 2020 when I moved to Texas for an Optima EX Premium. It had ambient lighting, pano roof, leather. It was an awesome little car. Sold it like 5 months later for $29k.

 

Kind of. it was 30-45 days about a month ago. As of last week it's 90-120 days lol. I'm also requesting a non advanced pkg platinum with nothing on it except the power running boards. But I'm calling today to have her move my deposit to a sequoia. It's just too delayed now to justify picking it up. And I don't think I could flip it for breakeven or profit like I did my 21 TRD pro.

 

The Sequoia looks really good so far , when is it actually going to be available?
