in my quest to get rid of all interior chrome/silver trim pieces, I started with 3 of the center console trim pieces. I wanted a flat textured look and a paint that would last being that its a "high traffic" area. I used dupli color spray bed-liner. I painted the chrome around the shifter, the chrome trim ring around the cup holder, and the silver insert around the shifter.

Came out great. Nice work. Unfortunate for me is my center console is one of the few places I don't have chrome.

Looks really good!! On the limited the ring around the vents are also chrome...I'm not sure how difficult it would be to remove them...

I'd like to do something about those chrome rings around the vents....on a sunny day those darn things blind me!

Losing my chrome would be an upgrade. If so many people don't like chrome, then why so many trucks delivered to dealer with chrome? I'm sure profit has nothing to do with it.:)woot:)

Chrome will come back into style in a few years, it goes in circles

Chrome is more expensive to manufacture than other options. If you want to buy any chrome after-market parts, you have to pay substantially more than non-chrome counterpart.

Way the upper trims are always produced with more chrome should indicate what the auto manufacturers think about chrome. I think the forum opinion tend to be slanted to one direction (dechroming, plastic-dipping, debadging). Look around. This style is in the minority.

Def want to do the chrome ring around the shifter. The lighter grey doesn't bug me but the chrome color stands out.

Thanks for the update! Looks great can't believe Toyota didn't do this from the factory. I'm not necessarily a chrome hater but doesn't fit in with the rest of the console.

Freaking looks awesome man! Great job!
How did you remove the chrome around the shifter letters? Can you a pic of the paint you used?

That’s great! (and thx for the update)

I didn’t mind the look but the other day the sun hitting the mirror by the shifter was really bugging me.

Do those pieces just pull straight up? I haven’t researched it yet.
