Howdy Y’all, I just have a question because I absolutely know nothing about LED headlights but I know I want to switch over to them. Do I need a new headlight housing? what bulbs do I use? What about fog lights? All that jazz if someone could help that would be awesome.

What's your reasoning for upgrading? Feel you don't have enough light output or just keeping up with the cool kids?

So I replaced the headlights due to the build up and sun damage and the bulbs that came with it just don’t do justice so I’ve been thinking about switching over just don’t have enough info to do so

Aftermarket headlight housings are just not great. They scatter light everywhere. Sometimes it's better to sand and re clearcoat the factory ones so they won't fade as badly. That's what I did with mine following the chris fix method.

I'm not big on LED headlights myself. I just recently did the headlight harness upgrade which uses thicker gauge wire and relays to allow your headlights to get a higher voltage. It also allows you to run higher watt halogen bulbs. You can swap out your fog lights for brighter bulbs too (same wattage but more science to make them brighter).

Or if you just want a bunch of light with your hi beams try a light bar bumper.
Here's a link to my thread about my install.
    https://www.tundras.com/threads/bumper-cutout-light-bar-install-early-1st-gen.100198/

If you search around with it set to only look for 1st gen threads you may find some good info if you're dead-set on LED.

The big beef I have with these is inevitable failure/lack of reparability. One other member was saying on here if they ever die, you're sending it back in for service, what do you do in the meantime, just drive around with one headlight? (ugh, I hate Jakob Dylan)

I genuinely thought about going that option and ended up getting a brand new pair of OEM for about 25% less.

@1stgenkid it sounds like LED won't do you a bit of good if you've got hazy housings. You either need to do as Nick said to polish and re-clear your housings (3M's kit and Cerakote's kit are both super easy) or replace your housings. Just know, if you go LED headlights, there are at least two other side effects you are likely to find, one is hyperflash (super fast turn signal flash), and potential loss of usage of your fog lights.

Headlight Revolution has a great website and YouTube channel also. They can hook you up with quality stuff. I'm not affiliated with them in any way, but through experience I can attest that they sell only top notch quality stuff that is in a totally different league from eBay/Amazon lighting.

I bought some cheap headlight housings on eBay and they're....meh. I also bought some LED headlight bulbs and I've been pretty satisfied with them. I can certainly see better at night now over the old setup...

I gave up on the whole headlight upgrade for my 2006.
I ended up just wet sanding and using 2K Clear and they are better than new, and it helped a ton.
As far as modifying the housings, bulbs, resistors, harnesses, LED, projectors, buckets, looms, relays, adjustments, etc. etc. etc. . . . might as well be speaking Chinese to me.
So I through up the surrender flag.
If I need more light down the road, I'll just 'add' some lights rather than trying to decipher and chase the lighting-voodoo.
    I'm over it.

I polished the haze off on my 2012 and put LED's in. The output is brighter but the light is not as focused. Depending on what your main aim is. Im would not be so worried about Led light kit failing that quickly as they usually keep long time. For sure they lasted longer then the darn halogens.

I used Beam Tech on my 06 dc around $40. dollars, u will probably need the resistors, but if you write beam tech through Amazon they will send you a pair of plug and play. Just make sure to mount them on metal near the headlight because they get hot. Changed everything in my truck to led. if you change the turn signals you will need the flasher for use with led. Bought mine from Advance auto parts for $12.00
