I65 is notoriously ill-prepared for winter weather.
But that's definitely north of me by a fair margin.

Pretty sure if you squint, you can make out PA on the door of that semi.

 

At least this next snowstorm is to the north of me where it should be, at all the ski locations.

Tomorrow is just pouring rain. Time to go out tomorrow and wash the salt off with it.

 

I'm half tempted to buy some heated gear and just take the bike to work. It's 130 miles round trip, so I'd have to fill up every day.

Yup. This is effectively how I did it. Pop off wheel, BFH to free drum, pop off drum, BFH to hammer out stud, stage new stud, pull it in with lug nut.

Your vid demonstrates for @bmf4069 why you can't do the job w/o removing the drum.

 

Oh. The way I read your post earlier was that you took the whole damn drum apart. Shoes and all. I need more coffee....

No point in pulling the drum apart. I was actually happy to hammer free the drum so I could check the interior surfaces, verify shoe remaining, and check things were seated as expected. They're in better shape than I expected. Looks like they probably got done less than 10k miles ago.

 

Your truck is new to you in the last 10k miles? Interesting, I assumed you had it for longer than that.

 

My truck only has 72,250mi as of today. I got it with around 64-65k, and .... like 3 years ago? Maybe 4 years ago, C19 has my sense of time all jacked.

It looks like the previous (2nd) owner only had it about as long as I've had it so far, mile-wise, and it looks like they put some work into it. I'm kinda wondering if they just put enough money into it they chose to get rid of it.

I also suspect it not being driven much is going to lend to me finding the valve cover gaskets will be hard as a rock.

 

Speaking of "rock". I guess 2022 is the year of the amp. Early 1980s solid state Peavey 450w Renown 115 showed up in the bed of my truck after $101 disappeared from my Venmo slush today.

Single 15" Black Widow driver. Cab has some tolex rips, nothing liquid electric tape won't cover. Needs light rust remediation, control rotation adjustments, and a full cleanout, it's pretty scratchy. Hoping I won't need to re-cap and all the controls are working as expected.

 

Ive ridden in the cold, not fun, but not too bad if you stack the layers. But in no way would i ride on snow/ice. Well, not with sport tires….maybe knobbies.

I rode on an overcast 40° day in my long johns, full clothes, insulated coveralls, and my Alpinestars jacket with the liner. Had my carhartt balaclava and helmet. I was still freezing at highway+ speeds.

 

I cant ever get my hands to stay warm enough. Ski pants works for the legs, a backwards hoodie helps with the torso and neck. I just havent bought electric or chemically heated gloves, but my leather work gloves, and leather insulated gloves got cold at about the same time.

Just drove to work. We've gotten < 3" so far.
They're just now dispatching plows. The interstates are only as clear as semis and earlybirds have trodden down.
I was going ~50 on the interstate and ~30-35 on surface streets.
In related news, I'm super impressed with the Coopers in the snow so far. Hopefully we get the other 7" of snow we've been promised so I can really put these chunkyboiz to the test.

Here’s a snap of the freeway this morning at 0636. Yes, I was going close to 50. No I wasn’t sliding all around. Yes I could steer and stop.

 

I am curious what @empty_lord does for rust prevention on his trucks.

Fluid film disciple? POR-15/Chassis Saver protector? Home car wash? Or just a daily driver rustbucket while his trucks stay pristine.

I don't remember if they're marketed as an AT or not. They're definitely a hybrid. The outer lugs are substantial while the middle of the tread has better road manners. They're impressively quiet for how rowdy they look.

 

I'm pretty sure he's said before he doesn't drive them in the salt. He's drives one of his other dozen vehicles. The avalon I think.

 

Wish they made kids in this style too. Mine are impressively noisy despite appearances.

Oh it happens. I just tend to clean it as soo as it happens. Right now it’s covered in salt. Can’t clean it with the current weather

One other person from Western NY commented specifically about what killer all-terrain ice/snow tires they are, and how little people are talking about it. If you search the page for "All terrain" you'll find the review from about a month ago at that link.

Although I gotta admit, Vulgar Display of Power was, IMO, a pretty damn good album. Hair metal wasn't necessarily my thing, but one of the dudes I used to session with as a teen would play plenty of this and Cowboys From Hell while shredding.

 

I always wanted a lefty BC Rich Warlock but I never see any going for sale used; even right handed.
