I think a lot of people, myself included, are kicking themselves for not getting a 2021 TRD Pro in Lunar Rock. I think buying a gen 2.5 for the reliability is a valid reason. At that point you were buying a 14 year old platform and a 5.7L V8 that has proven itself. In your case you bought something that had proven its reliability over time and it makes sense if you intend to keep it a long time. The gen 3, however, is as you state "perceived" reliability. It's a whole new platform and reliability remains to be seen. As far as I'm concerned its reliability is on equal footing as Ford, GM, RAM until proven otherwise. Looking at it now, is the 2022 Tundra TRD Pro worth $12K more than your 2021 Tundra TRD Pro? If you ask me I'd say no and I think you're getting a lot of value for the truck you have now.

I’m not kicking myself for not buying a 2021 Tundra. I already have one, my 2007 is functionally superior in fact since I have a proper transmission cooler. Seeing as there were no positive mechanical changes from 2007 to 2021, there’s no reason to have bought a 2021 if you already had a 2nd Gen Tundra.

If I were in the market for a truck last year I still wouldn’t have bought a 2021 Tundra. It was badly outdated, and I don’t intentionally buy new daily drivers that are that far behind on technology and fuel economy vs the power they offer.

I told my wife that I was pretty sure the Tundra we have is the last one we'll be able to afford. At the rate the car prices are going up (both new and used), our next vehicles will be matching smart cars (those tiny little panda sized things). That'll be embarrassing. :(

If they stay reliable they will hold their value, if not they won’t. Reliability is the single driver of Toyota’s resale. End of story. Right now some are questioning reliability for 22’ models. Bad 22’ reliability has the potential to make the 21’ and older more desirable

I do. That was the main appeal of my ‘21 purchase. I wanted the brand new 14 year old model for my first truck. Absolutely agreed on the no positive mechanical changes. They deleted lots of things over time (interior features and storage, drivetrain options, trans cooler, etc), and all the features they’ve added seems to be software-based (CarPlay, Toyota Safety Sense, etc). I added the trans cooler.

This post raises an interesting point…from my perspective, it seems there are two ways to boost profits mid-generation: add items that will increase sales and delete items that won’t decrease sales. Seems that Toyota has done just as much if not more of the latter over the span of the 2nd generation Tundra.

I could have bought a new 2021 but didn't make sense -- not that much less for ancient tech and less mpg with less power.. I traded my Jeep and got a great deal on the trade. Got the 0% loan and paid less than MSRP -- helps to know people. Looking at the high prices you have to take into account the high trade values you can get for some vehicles. It's a weird market.

Go and build a similarly equipped big three to any model tundra except the pro because we have no real world prices yet. I think you will see prices are at least the same but most are considerably more. Plus the big three spend considerable time in for warranty work with “proven tech”

I never understood the bashing on these sites. They were intended for like minded individuals to discuss everything in this case Tundra. There is no reason to bash anyone on what they paid what they have what they did how they did it. let’s just get some information and keep it at that. Share what works what doesn’t not your stupid for doing this. I come here for info not to show anyone my dick is bigger than yours. Remember we all share one common thing which is our love of Toyota Tundras.

The new Gen 3 Tundra seems to be competitive features vs price up to about the Limited trim vs mid grade competitors. Above that the competition offers more "stuff" for the money, and the Tundra falls behind.

While I don’t condone dealers adding thousands to the MSRP (or even hundreds) I do wonder if some of it is driven by losses to the dealerships due to the shortage of new cars and trucks to sell. They have millions of dollars invested in their dealership and despite having fewer vehicles to sell they still have to meet a payroll, pay property taxes, etc. Even I might be tempted to supplement my cash intake if I were operating a dealership.

I am glad you found a dealer that upheld the advertised price Chevy wanted to sell them at. This was also in December 2019 when I went to make an inquiry. I hope to god things have calmed down some. But it still doesn't excuse the fact they, a dealership, were selling a base model car with tint and dealer installed graphics "package" for almost 50k over the 59,995 they marketed it at on debut. Again people and pricing are crazy.

Last I read, you need a million views to make around 1500 bucks, and that's only if you have 1k+ subscribers and your channel is monetized.

I'm sure he's well on his way to paying that truck off...

Says the person calling people idiots for paying ADMs for a truck they want. Who are you to judge how much someone pays for their truck?

I don’t get the need for people that need to bash others for getting a truck they want (even if it’s paying a little over, that’s just the market these days). People feel like they need to justify their purchase by talking down on other and the 3rd gen seems to be the easy target these days.

BRO have you even been to raptor forum.

For this thread I would have been name called and told by about two dozen users to get a job and work harder and stop whining and go read a book on inflation and thanks obama.

Tundras.com is a paradise by comparison.
