I'm going to order this from red line goods as well. I think it looks great, did you order the standard length or go shorter? Also do you have details on the install, I'm curious how it stays up under the shift knob.

Tell you the truth, I can't remember as it's been a while. I would venture to guess that it's standard.

For your second question, I just used a pry tool around the leather surround after unscrewing the shift knob. It should all come up as one piece as they are held down with yellow clips. You'll notice that the shifter area is gapped between that and the rest of the console area. I curled the top part of the shift boot so that it would hug the shift knob and hide the edges as well as the chrome at the bottom of the knob. The rest of it was wrapped around the shifter area. When you place the leather surround back on it, it should keep the boot in place due to the pressure of the yellow clips. I tested it by moving the shifter back and forth a few times and once I was satisfied with it moving freely in all positions, I then made sure all corners were to my likings. You just gotta make sure the creasing of the boot is to your likings.

If you got further questions or need additional clarifications, don't hesitate to ask. I wouldn't worry about screwing anything up as it's essentially "plug and play" once you mess around with it.

Finally got this done. Being extremely OCD it took time and multiple attempts to get it where I was satisfied and or frustrated enough to leave it be.

I ordered a Tacoma TRD Pro shift knob on Amazon.

I also ordered an aftermarket black Tacoma shift boot retainer on Etsy from seller TrailbreakerCustoms.

The shift boot was ordered from redline goods. I requested 3” extra length, specifically 2” added to the top “neck” and 1” added to the bottom “flare”. This allowed extra neck length to compensate for the shorter Tacoma knob and all the movement required between positions. The extra bottom material allowed enough coverage to stay wrapped around the shifter box when shifting without pulling the boot up over the edges.

Finally I used an O-ring instead of a zip tie to secure the boot onto the retainer. This eliminates the bulge at the zip tie lock, O-ring size was trial and error I don’t know the size, I grabbed a handful of small O-rings and tried a few until one fit nice and snug in the retainer groove.

The rest of the install is pretty straightforward.

The Redline shifter boot is a very good quality and you could customize it.

I havent installed mine and I am curious how someone installed the boot the way in the picture.

Yes I’m happy with the quality of the Redline boot. Be advised that if you ordered the standard length it will be a bit too short to use with a Tacoma shift knob. I thought to glue it on my Tundra shift knob but wanted something cleaner and done right.

That picture looks like they cut the plastic face of the shift box.

This is the way. My OCD and desire for as OEM a look as possible drove me on a multi-night search to find that piece from Trailbreaker, only to discover he's out of them. Doh! Said he should have more in the next week, so until then, my Tacoma TRD Pro knob will sit and await it's newfound home in my Tundra.

    Don't have any.

    Very simple.
    Get a Tacoma TRD shifter
    Boot from Ebay
    Pull silver trim off
    Remove original handle
    Slip boot on, tuck in
    Clip silver trim back
    Screw on new handle.

Thanks! I am dropping it off at the post office in the morning.

Also, for future installs there is a large groove in the front of the collar that was designed to capture the head of the zip tie so there is no bulge. I will post a screen shot if it next time i fire up my CAD.

What keeps the boot from sliding down the shifter?

As promised, circled in red here ...
The highlighted area in blue here below as well. Just smash the boot material into there, line up the zip tie head about where the groove is, bend around the corners, tighten with finger pressure applied; It should keep out of the way (especially if you install it reversed, to where the head is pointing inward). The Tacoma has a seam in this location to aid with feeding the zip tie through in reverse, but you may not have a boot seam oriented this way unless you planned for it. Either way, not a big deal as I supply low-profile head zip ties as well for maximum hide ability, so either way should be free of bulge.
