I can respect that! Everyone’s experience can be different and that’s okay. My wife drives a Porsche Cayenne diesel and I feel the same about it as you do your Tundra. She also slammed into me 2 days ago and my trailer hitch punched a hole in the front of it missing the turbo intercooler by an inch. Yes, my own wife hit rear ended me. Insurance agent was like what?

All manufacturers use the footprint rule. The bigger the ride the lower the gas mileage they are required to meet. That’s why SUV’s and trucks are massive.

The fact here is that Toyota is doing this and just not sharing the data. Concern? Time will tell.

Yes I've noticed this too this morning. It takes a minute to warm up while driving and then the engine comes to life. Probably something to do with it wanting to be at a certain operating temperature first? I thought maybe it could be something to do with an ice cold transmission, too? But I think it's an engine thing.

As stated, the owner has no issues with getting a loaner. you are stating IF the issue becomes more widespread, but again that is IF and you have no knowledge of how Toyota will handle it IF it occurs. A warranty is not for an exceptional circumstance, all parts break at times, including costly computer controlled components. To purchase an extended warranty is the buyer's choice, not yours.

You're not interested in purchasing a 22 Tundra, you are very happy with your 2007. You state people driving new vehicles every three years have huge car notes, mine is paid off, if it wasn't it would still be none of your business. Some of us do want the new technology, some of us do want to have the things we desire, we do want to experience life, we don't own a 14 year old truck with 300k miles on it if it is not our desire to own one.

I hope you have many more happy miles in your truck and I'm glad that people love to ride in it an compliment you, I can actually see someone flattening their tires just to ask you for a ride

While this is not at all a Tundra….my ‘95 F250 used to do this. Turns out that in cold weather, the vehicle ECU kept the EBPV (exhaust back pressure valve) closed when really cold to aid the engine in warming up.

You could tell when the engine was deemed warm enough…exhaust note would change, and suddenly you’d get a ton more power. I’d bet money that’s what it is.

My Supra has that lag if you don't warm it up a few minutes before driving, my Subaru did it as well. It was also recommended that you do not drive in Sport mode without a brief warm up period of the engine.

Lots of stuff has to happen before any motor is making full power. It takes a while for the ECU to go into closed loop at warmup as the cats and other components come online. No surprise that this would affect performance to include boost.

I was kidding. Especially the part about hating beer.

You're wife hitting you is not all bad. You can use it against her later when you do something dumb. At least, that's my strategy.

I get it. I know they are just trying to eek out as many MPG as they can but my point is, it's pretty short sighted to focus only on MPG if the engines are wearing out significantly faster.

Having owned turbo vehicles in the past myself, I recommend that you stay out of boost until the engine is completely warmed up. I always babied the hell out of my Speed3 until the coolant temp was in normal operating range.

Had a similar experience. I had my truck parked in the driveway, and My ex wife backed her car out of the garage not paying attention and sideswiped my truck really good. That marriage cost me a fortune!

As a potential buyer who just asked my dealer to start looking into a configuration for me, I hope this is resolved by the time they find one for me which I'd guess could take a few months.

I have owned an 04 Dodge Dakota and we now own my Tundra and an Acura. No truck is perfect. Every make has early problems. They test a handful probably with one batch of parts from one supplier and then build hundreds of thousands. For a bit I looked at Rams, Fords, and Silverados. What has made me decide to veer from other brands more readily available back to waiting on a Tundra is my faith in their willingness and ability to take care of the customer.

When I owned my Dakota they had problems with ball joints snapping and wheels falling off trucks while people were driving around. Dodge denied the problem and fought off acknowledging it for so long it got to a level where Dateline did an expose that shamed them into addressing it more directly. When the new TLX had a batch of cars with a transmission problem Acura mailed my wife a letter telling her she had free extended transmission coverage to 10 years or 100 or 150K. She never had the problem or raised the issue.

When Tundras had the AIP problem I eventually got a letter telling me the part was covered to 10 years and 100K. My experiences with Domestics and what I've seen of others' experiences is they will fight against recognizing known problems through the life of a model until they can fix them with a redesign. Banking that saving money avoiding recall or warranty extensions would be worth it in the long run.

With The Japanese makes they take their time and analyze the problem and can be slow, but then make their customers whole because their reputation matters to them. When you hear individual stories of people fighting with their dealer or with Toyota Customer service they often sound no better than the domestics. But then once they get a handle on a problem they take care of people. So the turbo problems seem distressing and I'd be furious if my new truck was sitting on a lot for 30 days. But I bet they get it squared away and it doesn't scare me off from the brand.

48 miles has to be the lowest so far that I’ve seen. Better to happen now than later I guess.

mine with build date of 01/07 should arrive this week, it looks like i will roll the dice.
At least it seems that dealers know what the issue is, even if it will take many weeks to repair with parts availability.

not a great feeling to worry about a new truck shitting the bed on day one

Listen, I'm not here to cause hysteria. Just sharing info. I have a platinum and I'm still going to go through. But I think it's clear there is a bit of an issue and I don't think they know the extent.

I’ve noticed this when I don’t heat up the truck. If I turn it on and go it is a bit sluggish. When I remote start it I never have the issue. Usually happens on extremely cold mornings

TRD Air Filters, Front door windows tinted to match the rears. Wheel locks, Talons Garage cat shield, Tyger Automotive soft tonneau cover, WeatherTech floor mats with Tuff Skinz Custom Emblem kit, Toyota OEM Emblem Black Out kit. AVS vent covers on all four doors, Red Tundra letters on front bumper & TRD highlighted in Red on front grille. Tailgate Tundra Letters in Black.
That’s probably why they cut production in HALF. Quality control issues. I doubt it was for Covid and supply issues. They allocated supplies and cut production on other Toyotas for the Tundra.

Is the last 4 of the vin a indicator of where in the assembly line process the vehicle was built? Or is it randomly assigned?
