Hmmm.... I don't think I realized the Sequoia had a power antenna on it until you posted this pic. That gives me some ideas.

 

What kind of ideas?

 

Frenched or flush-mount power antenna on 1st Gen Tundra, maybe. I dunno. I'm gonna hafta look at next one that hits the pull-a-part yard.

 

Interesting to see the metal bumper with later 1st gen grill (the older 1st gens have some molding under the grill but above the bumper that the later ones do not). Been thinking long and hard about doing it to my double cab. My truck is white and I think that the black bumper top might work just as well as color-matched.

At Thompson Lexus...

In past years they used a red dune buggy and a bunch of Camrys and Corollas, and until last year it always in front of the adjacent Toyota dealer (Thompson Toyota, where I got my frame replaced); This is the first time I've seen them use a Tundra, and after running the license plate through Carfax I believe this is a former errand running truck for the adjacent Toyota dealer. If you look closely, you will see that the inspection stickers expired in 2018; The truck is a 2002 model, purchased new at dealer in Maryland in October 2001, with 10 miles on the clock. It spent more than a decade as a commercial vehicle and accumulated almost 150K miles in the first five years of its life; It seems to have been traded at Thompson in March 2017, and Thompson put it to use as a shop truck...

I went back after dark...

 

I was surprised to find out from the Carfax report that this truck has not been at Thompson it's whole life, though it has been in Pennsylvania pretty much it's whole life; It was sold new in Maryland and spent more than a decade as a commercial vehicle (I was thinking it was picked off the lot and put into service as a shot truck. The truck was purchased new in October 2001 and had 10 miles at the time it was first titled; By February 2006, the truck had over 145K miles on it! The last reported odometer reading was 159,426 in October 2017 (probably over 160K now); According to Carfax, this truck was driven less than 6,000 miles between February 2006 and February 2007 and from there it just seemed to get driven less and less, with a little over 1,500 miles put on the truck between February 2007 and February 2008. From February 2008 to June 2015, less than 6,200 miles were put on the truck, and less than 240 miles from June 2015 to June 2016; 350 from June 2016 to October 2017.

The truck spent the first 15 years of its life in Dublin, Pennsylvania; Dublin is just a few miles from Thompson Toyota, but the truck doesn't appear to have changed hands for the first time until March 2017. Despite having had two owners, Carfax shows only one. My guess would be that the truck was traded at Thompson and Thompson decided to keep the truck as a runner; The truck was serviced at Thompson, which included the replacement of an oxygen sensor and an emissions test/safety inspection, in October 2017. My theory is that Thompson uses the truck so little that they don't bother to inspect it anymore, rather than there being something wrong with the truck; I wouldn't be surprised if the engine needed a tuneup due to years of disuse, or if the A/C needed to be recharged, but this is a 3400 V6 we're talking about!

I wonder how many of those PA 1st gens are nothing but rust underneath.

 

This 2007 Sequoia SR5 belongs to a mechanic who works for my mechanic; His frame was replaced under the recall...

I actually thought that production stopped on the 1st Gen Sequoias in 2006 along with the Tundras until my mechanic hired this guy and he told me otherwise. This particular Sequoia has about 200K miles, but it absolutely mint and has some upgrades including the stereo. I was offered this Sequoia for $20K; I understand that the used vehicle market is hot right now, but I looked at the guy like he was high...

 

There are probably a couple other black Sequoias in here that I've spotted, but I took a picture of this one because it was a Limited and it seems to have a slight lift kit; Also, I'm amazed that @Sirfive is from Texas and he thinks a Pennsylvania rig is nicer than the one he had!

 

A lot of 1st Gens I find are a bit rough, especially in the paint department, and a good a number are bona fide shitboxes; Scroll down!

You'll even see one that I saw in NorCal back in 2017 that has a metal cage on the back instead of a bed!
