Jeezus, when did everyones' boxers start bunching up in their intergluteal clefts so quickly. Funny pic busting turbo, didn't give it anymore stock than that. Best way to make it more relevant than it was probably ever meant to be is to beat on it like Alex Van Halen on a drum set. ‍:crapstorm:

Imo, it's expressing how we all are disappointed of the sunset of our dependable v8. Nothing to get your panties in a bunch about.

Hey there’s no sunset on your V8 if you already own one.

I got mine, and don’t plan to part with it.

Back on topic… I have a friend whose cousin knows a guy who saw a tweet about a post on Facebook that the new 2022 Tundras have a Turbo issue? Anyone else have a friend whose cousin knows a guy who can confirm?

There was a picture on Instagram of a truck at a dealer with the cab off, it was hard to tell, but it looked like a RAM? There was a Tundra in the background, but not a 2022, it looked like it was in for an oil change. :anonymous::crapstorm::burnrubber:

That's a very nice looking setup.
I was expecting a linear wastegate actuator, but they're using a gear drive actuator.
I'm quite surprised it failed. Maybe somehow a shim, washer was left out, or incorrect bushing.
I used to repair and service these types of actuators, if they are assembled properly they should be nearly bulletproof. If one part or spec is incorrect they will fail and no amount of "clearing codes" will solve it.
Also possible the wastegate assembly is binding.

I'll need to dig up a pic of the Nissan turbos used on the VR30DDTT in the new Z, they use the linear style actuator and those actuators have proven super-reliable.

Here's a pic of the Nissan turbo used on the Infiniti Q cars and the upcoming Z. You can see it uses a plastic linear actuator, which you would think Toyota's gear drive metal actuator would be superior. Surprisingly, these plastic actuators are very reliable, but I would've put my money on the metal actuator Toyota uses!

My guess is the position sensor is defective, and everything else is dimensionally in spec down to the waste gate valve seating surface.

I wouldn't bet on that. If it's an optical wheel sensor, those are nearly fool proof. Whenever positioning fails on this type of actuator, it's usually not the sensor. If these types of sensors fail, they fail completely dead, not occasionally inaccurate.

The other type of position sensing would be comparing motor current pulses to drive output control. If the ECU commands 500 steps, it can also confirm 500 current pulses. If the actuator binds at any point of those 500 steps it will be revealed by distorted drive current. This type of setup uses less parts and wiring and is fairly accurate too.

So, my 1794 is due to land between Feb. 15-21st. Is was built Jan. 26th. I assume that if there is indeed a wide spread issue from a part defect or system defect, Toyota would not have had enough time to implement a fix on the assembly line. Therefore, I am now reconsidering my purchase as this will inevitably weigh heavy on my mind and will cause me to worry and think when I will break down or go in limp mode until there is an identified fix. Of course to fix it, there has to be an identified failure which appears to be the waste gate valve. If so, I don’t like the sound of a cab being taken off the frame and reinstalled. Many wires, hoses, bolts, clips, etc. will be compromised and it worries me that a technician with limited 2022 experience will be working on it. I picture a bag of bolts and clips being handed to me with extra parts after the cab is reinstalled. Anyone with new or more comforting news?

Honestly don't blame you a bit. One likes to think that anything being built now has indeed been retro'd, but who really knows? The communication from Toyota has been woeful.

The smart money is to sit this one out for a year or two.

Let Toyota un-fuck this truck, and allow the auto market to cool down.

I need to get a new full size truck or SUV by the summer.

If Toyota can't resolve these issues by then I'll stay with Chevrolet for another couple of years.

Thx-SR5 Sport 4wd, 4 dr crew, Blueprint/gray int.... blk sport TRD wheels....lots of compliments. I was concerned about the Blueprint color initially...from different pics/descriptions. Love it now. Beautiful deep metallic blue...

Had a 2019 4door, 2wd....nice truck, but felt like driving a ups delivery van around compared to this shrink wrapped feeling Gen3. ‘22 seems nimbler handling than my ‘19.
Best math on fuel mi is 19+ thus far.
2019 was appx 16 mpg tank after tank.
    If I was lucky.

Course all Tundras feel big compared to my Tacos.
    Still getting acquainted.

There are two kinds of people: Those who HAVE experienced a turbo issue on a '22 (and future) Tundra and those who WILL experience a turbo issue.

It's like people think Toyota has like invented a world's first brand new kind of engine here and just sort of stuck their fingers in the wind and out popped a 22 Tundra. Get real. There are turbos in the engine get over it already Jesus H.

I posted this earlier in the general section. Has anyone had or heard of the engine just shutting down while driving? I got my truck this past Friday and today while out, the engine just shut off. Check engine light came on and Lost power steering. I was able to pull off the road and restart the truck and make it home. Could of been a disaster if I was on the highway.! Is this related to the turbo issue that people have been talking about here?
Going to the dealership first thing tomorrow.
