I really want those wheels on my truck I dislike the TRD OFF ROAD wheels.

I dig that color. That’s a bad looking ride. I normally wouldn’t do a color that loud, but…

Ha! Neither would my wife. This would be one where I’d get her to sign off on the truck model and then come home with the “wrong” color.

I can understand what this guy means, at some speeds if you step on it really quickly at go to WOT it takes a second or two to downshift. But the throttle tuning on these trucks is top notch. Overall acceleration feels like more than the V8 and more linear delivery. Also agree about the screen, wish I could do a split between carplay and maybe mpg or something similar to what Ford has.

After seeing and reading some real world results of the Non Hybrid 3.5 Twin Turbo engine from TFL and others I can now say I would be happy to have this engine. Another thing I know I mentioned before is in the first Tundra IKE video from TFL it towed I think it was 9k up the ike at only 2400-2500 rpms that is very very impressive for a gas engine. I recently watched a FE economy loop from TFL with the Tundra towing 8100 pounds and it got 12.4 mpgs and that is just fine if not excellent in my mind for a gas engine. One of the biggest things for me which I probably mentioned before was towing FE and with the Ford Ecoboost Towing FE was very poor Glad it is not the case with Toyota's TT engine.
I plan on still waiting a couple of years though mostly because I want to see if it will work out that I can use it for what I need payload wise while towing. Payload limit creeps up fast on half tons.

I really want to like the 2022 Tundra but it looks to much like a Ford and Chevy had a child. It looks kind of like a Ford grille and the fenders look a lot like a Chevy truck. I think they will rework the front end in the next few years. I am still on the fence about a composite bed. I love the interior of the new Tundras and some of the other bells and whistles. The old V8 gets 380 horsepower while the new V8 with twin turbos gets 389. I can get a lot more horsepower than that from my V8 with a simple set of headers and a new exhaust. I would want the 1794 but I hate the idea of 20 inch tires. They would have to go. If I get a 3rd Gen it will have to be in a few years after they work the bugs out and offer some more design features. I have to applaud the ones that bit the bullet and took a chance with the first trucks on the new platform I just don't have the desire to be one of those guys. I think I am going to stick with my 2021.

Well if you live in the mountains your 2021 Tundra doesn’t make anywhere near 381hp, so the 2022 will have a much more significant power advantage over your current truck.

As far as easily adding power, a computer controlled modern turbocharged engine is probably the easiest engine to get more power out of with nothing more than a tuner, or better yet a dyno tune. It shouldn’t take much to add 50-60hp to these trucks with an ECU tune. By this time next year it should be plug-n’-play to have a 440hp, 530lb-ft iForce tune, as long as the aftermarket cracks the ECU code.

I wouldn't hold your breath while waiting for Toyota to change the front end. Maybe they might start to rework what is painted, and get rid of some chrome. I think it will be closer to 7 years before any significant design changes. I wouldn't be surprised to see tow hooks on the front, or some kind of solution to that problem, once they have the mechanical issues resolved.

I feel like my 5.7 does the same thing though. You step on it and there's nothing for a second then the rpms shoot up then it downshifts and then it goes.

Even in tow haul mode? (For both engines?)

The pedal in non tow haul mode is less sensitive. - Captain Obvious

How much power can you realistically gain with headers and exhaust? Turbos can be tuned to add lots of power. The other big difference is where that power comes in at much lower with the tt. Hp didn't increase much but torque did and they are getting those numbers with the possibility of much better efficiency. Composite bed doesn't scare me, for many its new and unknown, but I had one on my Tacoma for 11 years and never had an issue. I agree, I will give it 3 years or so to work out any issues, but when I bought my 2016 I had planned to keep it for 10 years anyway.

Tow haul is definitely more sensitive, mainly talking about normal driving. At certain speeds or rpm, when you step on it, there's just a hesitation before it actually takes off. Nothing wrong with the truck it just takes a second for the rpms to ramp up and for it to downshift before it really takes off.

I don’t really know what people expect, transmissions take some time to downshift.
The mode shouldn’t affect it, they’re talking about delay from the downshift.

Toyota ECU are notoriously difficult to crack. However, if someone does crack it, with the small chance of your turbos being possibly defective, I think the average person would be better off either using a piggyback like a JB, or better yet, don't tune at all. Seeing as how one turbo is $3k or more.....

Almost all modern ECU will set a flag anytime they are tuned. It is what most manufacturers will look for if a warranty request is expensive enough. Putting the stock tune back on won't reset the flag(s)

In the 22 Tundra, yes, but say you step on it more, it’ll take time do downshift a couple of gears. 7th to 3rd for example.

That one is interesting because they’re splicing into the sensors and controlling the injection, etc independently of the ECM. It’s not a good solution but I doubt anyone will crack the ECM.

That one on FB was the JB I was talking about. It just tricks the ECU into making more power by modifying certain sensor data. Not a hacked ECU, yet

Modding the engine is big boy rules territory.

No crying when you break stuff, and no expectations of warranty support when the things are broken.

Has anyone had or heard of the engine just shutting down while driving? I got my truck this past Friday and today while out, the engine just shut off. Check engine light came on and Lost power steering. I was able to pull off the road and restart the truck and make it home. Could of been a disaster if I was on the highway.!
Going to the dealership first thing tomorrow.
